Advancement in data management, data storage, automation and remote access are required to ensure Diamond remains world-class, and in some areas world-leading. We now look to appoint a Senior DevOps specialist who will act as a vital link between our scientific computing services and core infrastructure teams, with the goal of creating a cohesive group of engineers and developers that will support the critical work of UK scientists. Your new role In a hands-on role, you will take responsibility to bring together our developers and engineers to implement innovative solutions, enabling our users to optimise the use of our scientific software applications. Our environment is based on state-of-the-art High Performance Computing (HPC) and High Through-put Computing (HTC) platforms and will require you to understand both software and infrastructure requirements. As the single person with oversight of both the development and infrastructure teams, you will need to consider the impact of our future growth and anticipate challenges by implementing a culture of continuous improvement. You will also act as an advisory on emerging technologies and paradigms, including parallel programming using MPI and Open MP, cloud computing and data-intensive research. What you'll need to succeed As the successful candidate for this role, your background will cover classic Linux Systems Administration using Korn, Bash or Shell scripting, ideally in a HPC or HTC environment. In addition to your Linux Administration skills, your role will require you to make insightful changes to our software using Python, Java, C++ or C. A core part of your role will be to interact with everyone who uses or supports our facility, from scientists and engineers, to senior directors and external clients. Therefore it is essential that you are a natural communicator, able to build lasting professional relationships.
