DFID's Business Solutions Department (BSD)

How do we reach the poorest people around the world? What new innovative technology solutions could we employ to deliver greater impact with UK's aid budget? These questions underpin the work of BSD as we deliver business applications and technology services to DFID staff globally, using solutions that put DFID at the top of the Civil Service 'Way we Work' assessments.

We are now looking for a talented Senior Business Analyst (Business Analyst, Support, Manager):

Why we need you -

Accessible, up-to-date and reliable data is critical for the effective operation and successful delivery of DFID's aid programme, providing evidence, monitoring and control, and allowing lessons to be shared across the organisation. It is also essential for the effective performance of management functions such as planning, organising, leading, and decision making. DFID has a strong appetite for better management information (MI) in support of frontline delivery of the aid programme.

You will play an important role within the Business Innovation Team (BIT) in transforming our data platforms to meet future needs of DFID staff by identifying and developing opportunities to improve business processes. We are looking for two experienced, energetic, innovative and self-motivated business analyst to work within the team. The post offers an excellent opportunity to further develop an exciting career that operates at a strategic level and will gain an in-depth understanding of DFID's core business functions.

These are challenging roles that require strong analytical skills to understand user needs and problems, and support the communication and delivery of solutions to meet these needs. Analytical thinking, problem-solving and communication skills are core to effective business analysis.

The key functions of the Senior Business Analyst (Business Analyst, Support, Manager) role are the following:

• Learn to understand DFID's strategic objectives, and ensure products are aligned with key organisational priorities
• Consider wider impact of changes on products and services, maximising user experience and cohesion across the portfolio
• Facilitate elicitation of user requirements, establishing real needs and possible solutions
• Conduct user research to assist evaluation of options and take into account before a final solution
• Identify opportunities and generate ideas for improvements or new solutions to meet user needs
• Perform analysis of user stories, ensuring understanding by relevant parties and is adequately assessed
• Assist with prioritisation of user stories, inputting to the management of a backlog of validated, prioritised user stories
• Continually update this product backlog based on end user requirements and product feedback
• Map business processes and create user flows, and mock-ups which represent the current structure and future design of a product or service
• Communicate effectively with internal and external partners, ensuring needs are fully understood
• Prepare, or assist with the preparation of, documentation and reports as required by the relevant Board(s)

Key responsibilities and proven background of the Senior Business Analyst (Business Analyst, Support, Manager):

• Manage several pieces of work at the same time and prioritise appropriately
• Embrace change, working flexibly and adapting as user needs and priorities evolve
• Self-manage - working effectively in a matrix structure
• Invest in continual self-development
• Experience in agile principles and techniques, with significant experience in applying agile approaches.
• Able to work on IT enabled business change projects with the ability to proactively recognise potential for exploiting IT to the benefit of the organisation
• Proven background of communicating effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
• Conducting user research, and defining and documenting detailed user needs, using a variety of techniques
• Establishing strong analysis and complex problem-solving skills, with the ability to work both independently and facilitate others to reach decisions
• Using robust approaches for scoping, prioritising and sequencing tasks with a focus on user need.
