Summary:
This company is looking to recruit an experienced network engineer to work with the company's school based customers to ensure smooth roll out and support of the upcoming trial of a new cloud-based platform. The selected candidate will ideally be experienced in school environments (Primary and/or Secondary) and will understand the configuration variances they will experience. The job will be based out of the head office in Blackburn, Lancashire.
The role serves two main purposes:
- To support the company's trial participants to ensure a smooth experience.
- To help the company shape their strategy for managing disparate network infrastructures.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Carry out site visits to schools across the United Kingdom to assess network implementation as it pertains to their systems. This may involve arriving on site with little information on the existing infrastructure, and learning about what is in place through investigation and discussion with school based staff.
- Communicate with school based IT support functions and teachers to diagnose and resolve specific issues. This may involve the initial discussions with people reporting issues, through to the in-depth resolution with organisations who support schools (e.g. external IT companies or Local Authority staff).
- Support staff who attend on-site visits either in person or remotely.
- Contribute to the creation of documentation to both support customers in their use of the system and internal staff in their delivery of demonstrations and training.
- Contribute to the internal processes of making the system work as smoothly as possible in all environments. This may be through reporting back issues encountered on site visits, or through creating appropriate test environments for development staff to recreate and simulate issues.
Key areas of knowledge:
- In depth understanding of network configurations, preferably with experience of these in a variety of educational environments, or similar.
- Strong understanding of implementation of wireless networks in schools.
- Detailed knowledge of firewall technologies and proxies, to help the company assess their impact on the system.
- Understanding of web technologies and their implementation as it relates to network communication (HTTP/S, WebSockets etc.).
- Up-to-date knowledge of relevant network hardware manufacturers and equipment.
Desirable areas of knowledge/experience:
- Mobile Device Management solutions
- Understanding of school Management Information Systems
Applicants should hold a full UK Driving Licence as travel is essential to the role.
Applicants will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS check.
