A strategic alliance has been formed between Warwickshire Police and West Mercia Police in order to enable both forces to meet the challenge of reducing policing budgets. By working more closely together the forces will benefit from greater operational and organisational resilience, making us the fourth largest geographic police area in England and Wales.
The main purpose of this role is to manage non-emergency telephone enquiries from members of the public and conduct further telephone based investigations where police deployment is not required or where initial contact handling has not brought the crime to a resolution
Main Responsibilities:
To receive and record non-emergency requests for service, capturing data at the first opportunity in accordance with National Standards of Incident and Crime Recording.
To make contact with victims of crime at the earliest stage in the investigative cycle and provide timely updates to victims and witnesses of crime during the pre-charge stage in accordance with the Victim Code and Witness Charter.
To resolve incidents and investigate non-deployable crime, finalising the reported crime and issuing a reference number where necessary.
Undertake investigative duties as directed by the Crime Decision Makers, Managers, Supervisors and Local Investigators
To arrange recovery, review CCTV footage and circulate images if appropriate
To complete telephone witness statements and manage police exhibits appropriately.
To undertake other general office based enquiries as part of the investigative cycle.
To prepare handover packages for further investigation by Police Officers and file and manage undetected crime reports.
To update, analyse and interrogate IT record and intelligence systems in accordance with Force Policy, Management of Police Information (MOPI) and National guidelines.
To undertake other duties commensurate with the nature, level of responsibility and grading of this post, as required.
Experience/Skills:
5 A-C grade GCSE`s (or equivalent) including English Language
An understanding of the principles of crime investigation and knowledge of National Standards of Incident Recording, National Crime Recording Standard and Home Office Counting Rules
Experience in working as part of a team in a busy customer service environment
Proven ability to gather and collate information using questioning techniques and create and maintain accurate records.
Good data input skills
Proven ability to work to strict deadlines whilst managing a high workload.
Proven customer service and good oral and written communication skills.
Competent in the use of IT, including Microsoft packages.
Special Conditions
Shift working including weekends
Exposure to disturbing/unpleasant tasks
Wearing a uniform
