Business Development Team Leader, Based: Northampton, Salary c£30k + performance related bonus

We have an exciting opportunity for a Business Development Team leader to work for a market leading provider of outplacement, career transition / development and organisational change services. The company supports organisations through periods of change (i.e. downsizing, restructuring) and provide outplacement support to the individuals by way of career workshops, career coaching etc.

Business development in this role is focused on relationship building and solution selling, typically to HR Directors / Procurement Managers across a range of industry sectors i.e. Financial Services, Insurance, Retail, Public sector etc. The ideal candidate will have experience of selling into HR and Procurement Decision Makers and could therefore suit someone from an Outplacement, Recruitment Manager, Outsourced HR, Training or similar background who has worked in a Sales Manager / Sales Team leader capacity.

Business Development Team leader Job Purpose

  • To plan, personally contribute and direct the team, to ensure appropriate focus on consistent activities which lead to achievement of team sales targets and business objectives
  • Lead and personally contribute to business development team performance by generating meetings and enquiries with senior decision makers (HRDs, Procurement, FDs, MDs) within target organisations
  • To qualify, assess, convert or decide appropriate action for inbound sales enquiries
  • To initiate and follow up marketing and research activities and generate new contacts and leads
  • To develop, grow and maintain a database of prospective customers

Key tasks and responsibilities

  • Develop new and existing customer relationships, leads and enquiries through the primary activity of telephone calls and email/marketing activities
  • Implement a regular call cycle and follow up action plan for target customers
  • Research, generate, qualify, convert and follow up leads
  • Make appointments and manage customer meeting arrangements effectively 
  • Maintain consistent quality sales processes that conform to company standards
  • Conduct research on target clients, profile and track key contacts and update account information to ensure appropriate sales and marketing coverage
  • Provide and coordinate appropriate resources for target customers including on-line demonstrations and marketing materials and event invitations
  • Maintain accurate records (update information within contact management system/ database)
  • Provide regular and reliable sales forecasting information
  • Ensure current knowledge of full company product range
  • Keep abreast of developments within competitive environment
  • Provide feedback and work closely with delivery and marketing teams to continually improve business results and build collaborative internal relationships
  • Coach, support and manage BD team to ensure achievement of results and that team and individual behaviour is consistent with company expectations and values

Candidate Requirements:

  • Proven track record and experience in successful new business development within a competitive professional services or B2B environment
  • Experience of leading a team and personally delivering within a telephone based sales team to achieve agreed performance standards
  • Experience of building relationships with senior HR or Procurement professionals across a varied range of industry sectors
  • Demonstrated ability to assess sales opportunities and move prospects through a sequence of events to develop and progress a sales cycle
