A freelance and part time lecturer is required to teach, on-line, a Database management module as part of a technology degree apprenticeship programme at one of the UK's leading business schools. Candidates will have either (a) teaching experience in database design and implementation or (b) are practicing IT professionals who actively manage and design databases. Practitioners should be able to deliver engaging courses in online classes.

Responsibilities

For the core teaching components, the commitment is typically 3-5 hours a week, teaching in the early evening. Additional opportunities exist for managing and developing course modules. The teaching component is offered at £50 -£60 per hour. Additionally, the lecturer would manage the course cohort, marking, providing student feedback and ensuring the smooth running of courses.

The lecturer would be expected to teach the following:

- Foundational principles of database design, query and manipulation
- Use of relational DBMS (SQL) including schemas, query languages (T-SQL), views, extracts and reporting
- Applying database design best practices including ERD, normalisation etc.
- Database modelling and design in UML
- Alternatives to relational databases including introduction to NoSQL

There is also the opportunity to undertake additional duties. These include providing module leadership, curriculum design and students project supervision. The start date for the teaching component is January 2018. if additional module leadership work is undertaken this commences in Aug 2018.

Skills & Experience

- A degree or a relevant professional qualification
- Hold a teaching qualification at any level relevant to the discipline or fellowship of the HEA. If you have neither of these then a commitment to undertake a PGCPE or equivalent which the client will facilitate and award.
- If you have no formal teaching experiences the employer will be interested in those that have (a) worked extensively in technology roles which have a high component of designing, implementing and managing networks and (b) Can present engaging material in an online environment
- Have excellent IT, written communication and presentation skills

Ideally you would also have:

- Experience of teaching at undergraduate or the equivalent professional qualification level
- Experience of teaching online
- Experience of module design and leadership and supporting students in an academic context
- Experience in writing engaging learning materials for face to face and online delivery
