Our client are the leader of Pharmacy led Healthcare within the UK. Following its recent merger with Walgreens to form Walgreens Boots Alliance; the new company is growing its network so it can provide Pharmacy led Healthcare on a global scale.

In the UK, the Pharmacy market is under big transformation as the Department of Health & the NHS evolve to meet the population's changing health needs. As a result the Pharmacy Finance Team has a key role in partnering the Pharmacy Leadership Team to deliver strong financial governance in such a dynamic market, as well as leading the generation of insights and leveraging these insights to drive tactical performance and to define the next stage of the Pharmacy strategy.

Our client are now looking to recruit a Finance Manager to join their team in Nottingham.

The Role
As our client's Finance Manager, your role will be central to the Pharmacy Finance Team working directly with the Finance lead for Pharmacy as well as the Pharmacy leadership team. This is a varied role that will involve the creation of a central FP&A function in Pharmacy, to generating real insights by getting under the skin of what's happening, then using these insights to guide performance. The role will also be responsible for the evolution of the management information programme, partnering key commercial projects, to targeted analysis of key performance situations.

You will be responsible for:

  • Central Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) for Finance team: The Pharmacy division is in its own right a FTSE sized company, therefore one of the key focuses of the role will to understand how we bring all the different pharmacy reporting practises together. The role will also be responsible for key reporting to the Pharmacy Leadership Team on a weekly and monthly basis. You will also be expected to understand the end to end performance of the total pharmacy division; using this understanding to kick start required actions to either maximise opportunities or to mitigate risks.
  • Evolve the Management Information (MI) programme: The role will own the evolution of MI to head office teams and store field teams. The ambition for Pharmacy MI is to create a toolkit so the business (at all levels - divisional director to individual store) can simply and quickly understand their performance as well as leading them to take the right next steps. This will also require the creation of a sustainable capability agenda.
  • Commercial Projects: As the pharmacy strategy evolves there are a range of programmes that need financial partnering support. This will involve the use of traditional investment appraisals approaches, although being able to tailor these so they are appropriate for the varied nature of a Pharmacy business that provides a range of straight forward services ( prescriptions) to more complicated specialist services like running care homes, hospitals and new clinical services. This will also involve being able to work with and influence stakeholders to think through and value up new ideas at concept stage, through to development and deliver.
  • Real Insights: Using commercial instinct and analysis skills to understand performance. As the Pharmacy strategy evolves in a dynamic market you will be required to get stuck into varied topics and work with difference stakeholders to understand what's happening, why it's happening and to propose what we should do next. The individual will not just be fed "things to analyse", they will be expected to use their commercial instinct and the understanding of having an overview on all the departments performance KPIs (as owner of FP&A) to define an agenda of what needs to be reviewed.

The Candidate
To be considered for our client's Finance Manager role, you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Can lead the performance of a division and understand varied performance KPIs (financial, commercial, operational, people).
  • Have a strong overview of finance: business partnering, technical skills, experience of partnering commercial & operational areas.
  • Can generate insights, and more importantly you know how to use them???by that I mean you are able to look at insights and are confident enough to suggest what needs to happen next, then you can engage and influence stakeholders to achieve the right action to either maximise performance or mitigate risks.
  • Are a dynamic individual that feels comfortable with a mixture of standard and non-standard responsibilities, being able to flex, work at pace and prioritise accordingly.
  • Can be truly commercial, being able to apply commercial thinking in all scenarios.
  • Are able to communicate with clarity and can engage different business and finance stakeholders.
