These roles are primarily located in Swansea with the possible option to work from Bristol or Swindon.
Join the DVLA as a Lead/Senior Software Engineer, and you'll help build world class digital services that pave the way for future business transformation.
You'll be part of the programme that's migrating legacy technology onto new, cloud-based platforms. You'll design and implement efficient, supportable applications that meet cost, resource and customer requirements. This will involve taking full solution and technical ownership, and presenting the solution to senior stakeholders. On an ongoing basis, you'll also analyse and resolve service delivery issues and monitor technology performance, looking for additional opportunities to improve it.
You'll develop software using both recognised and specialist programming languages and technology, so you'll be a technically-astute engineer. You'll provide leadership, working on your own initiative but also collaborating as part of a team structure - learning from other team members and mentoring junior developers.
We're looking for Lead and Senior Software Engineers who have experience of working as part of a flexible software delivery team working in a variety of styles, including Agile, and who also have experience in object orientated programming languages and cloud technologies (for example, Java, AWS and Unix technologies).

Additional Role Requirements
Candidates will have the opportunity to:-
• Be available on rota basis to undertake out of hours activities and provide on call cover to support the service and/or
• Work within an extended hours shift pattern (6am-2pm and 2pm-10pm). An indicative shift allowance of 20% is applicable for extended hours roles
You should note that although your initial working pattern will be as quoted above, the Agency reserves the right to alter, or modify these hours, on appropriate notice, should the need arise.
