Fleet Workshop Supervisor
We require a Fleet Workshop Supervisor who will provide effective support for our fleet maintenance workshop in Carrington, Manchester. The role, in addition to having supervisory control over day to day activities, will also be hands on working within the technician team as and when required.
The primary function will be to oversee all day to day workshop activities, which comprise of in house automotive and specialist cryogenic tanker/trailer dispense equipment maintenance. In this role you will have operational control of a small team of Automotive and cryogenically trained technicians. The role will ensure all elements of day to day workshop activities are controlled or performed to provide a safe, efficient and cost effective service to the wider distribution function.
As a Fleet Workshop Supervisor, you will:
- Directly supervise a small internal workshop team, to ensure that all planned and unplanned maintenance activities are co-ordinated and executed to the required standard and scheduled in line with agreed company maintenance policies.
- Plan and control maintenance of equipment using third party vendors where required
- Be able to prioritise day to day workload between supervisor tasks and hands on maintenance tasks
- Plan and manage weekly workload against available resource to ensure maintenance compliance, whilst maximising vehicle availability for fleet operations
- Manage the team to ensure vehicle defects are dealt with efficiently to ensure disruption to fleet operations are minimised.
- Authorise all maintenance documentation and ensure equipment is fit for operation prior to release to fleet
- Ensure tight control of automotive and specialist components stock levels to support planned and unplanned maintenance activities
- Provide effective leadership relating to safety and quality standards and ensuring full compliance within the team
- Work closely with the fleet management team and other workshop supervisors on specific fleet related projects or technical maintenance issues to realise cost effective solutions
- Be part of the on-call team, providing 24/7 breakdown cover for automotive and cryogenic defects including emergency response in relation to product issues.
- Work within an early/late shift rota to ensure workshop coverage from 06:00 to 20:00 Monday to Friday.
- Ensure documentation and records are completed in line with company and legislative requirements
Provide technical support to other AP fleet maintenance locations across the UK&I including off site support in relation to vehicle breakdowns if required
As the Fleet Workshop Supervisor you will ideally have the following:
- Technical qualification (City & Guilds or NVQ qualified technician) or proven experience repairing & maintaining heavy goods vehicles.
- Relevant experience in leading a workshop team within a vehicle engineering discipline
- Possess a good understanding of current ADR, DVSA & FTA regulations & requirements.
- Good understanding of commercial aspects of vehicle maintenance activities with the ability to work to deadlines, whilst ensuring workmanship is maintained to a high standard
- Ability to communicate effectively within a team and have a proven track record in successfully managing a team with differing levels of capability
- Ability to operate day to day as part of the team but also be able to lead and make decisions to ensure optimum performance of the workshop
- Be able to work well under pressure and have the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Evidence of previous performance in which strong technical and practical engineering skills have been demonstrated
- Determination and commitment to ensure all aspects of the role are fulfilled to the best of their potential
- Flexibility to work at other locations within the network of garages if required
- Holder of a current HGV Cat C+E licence would be preferred
