Residential Camp Activity Instructor - Oxford

Summary of Position:

The role of Activity Instructor is to deliver outstanding, structured Sport and/or Art and fun activities to groups of children at our Varsity International Residential Language School.

You will be expected to deliver (with supporting resources) activities to children aged between 10 and 14 years, with the emphasis being on participation, structure, and development. You will also be required to lead excursions for the children off site, ensuring their safety and enjoyment at all times.

You will also have a pastoral role, being the group leader and key contact for the children on camp.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Prepare and deliver activities for children aged 8-16, focusing on participation, development, and enjoyment.
Lead weekly excursions for the children off site, ensuring their safety
Welcome the children upon their arrival to ensure they are settled, and assist with the logistics of the children travelling to the school.
Ensure all policies and procedures on camp are adhered to by yourself and the children in your care, including all health and safety, and safeguarding procedures.
Help to set up Varsity International by attending a Camp Induction Weekend
Take a pastoral role throughout your time at Varsity International, welcoming new children into the school and liaising with the Centre Manager.
Supervision of children outside of activity times.
At all times behave in a manner that reflects the expectations of Varsity International Summer Schools.
Show the required energy, enthusiasm and professionalism for the duration of the season, acting as an ambassador for Varsity International, and behaving as a suitable role model for children.
Other ad-hoc duties (cleaning, equipment maintenance/ordering etc.)

Requirements:

Qualified in, or working towards relevant coaching, teaching or art qualification, with experience of working with children.
Ideally experienced working with international children
Ideally experienced and/or qualified in teaching English as a foreign language
Enthusiastic, energetic individual, passionate about working with, and developing children through play and activity.
Experienced in coaching/teaching, able to tailor delivery and structure according to age and ability.
Good organisation and communication skills.
Flexible, team player, able to adapt to dynamic situations and challenges on camp.

Hours of work: Residential staff receive one day off per week on average. The nature of the job requires Activity Instructors to be flexible and willing to address situations whenever they arise.

Rate of Pay: Competitive. Food and accommodation provided on site
