About Oxford Genetics: We are a specialised contract research organisation offering services to support the discovery, development and production of biologics, with a particular focus on viral vectors for gene therapy applications. Leaders in synthetic biology, our portfolio spans expertise in DNA design, expression system optimisation, cell line development and engineering of viral delivery systems. We are based in purpose-fitted laboratories on The Oxford Science Park, just south of central Oxford.
We are in a phase of rapid expansion and are seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic scientists and engineers to join the team and help facilitate the next stage of our development as a company.
The Position Offered: We seek a driven IT technician to assist in the development, maintenance and administration of our growing office and laboratory IT infrastructure. As we double the size of our premises in the second half of this year, the appointee will also be involved in specifying, designing and deploying the necessary extensions to our existing systems.
The appointee will split their time equally between first- and second-line support tasks, and extended infrastructure development projects. The primary responsibilities of the successful applicant will be to provide comprehensive IT support to our staff, to co-administrate our Windows Server-controlled domain, and to provision and deploy new IT equipment, including – but not limited to – staff laptops, laboratory workstations, remote telepresence solutions, network switches, and wireless access points. Secondary responsibilities could include to provision, deploy and manage Linux-based virtual machines (e.g. to support our in-house web development and scientific programming teams), to install and maintain both legacy and state-of-the-art life sciences laboratory equipment, or to design and implement improved cloud-based large-volume back-up solutions, depending on expertise and personal interests.
The Applicant Sought:
• The successful applicant will have experience co-administrating Windows Server-controlled domains, and will have good working knowledge of Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) and related server technologies (e.g. LDAP, DNS, Print Services, DFS-R.)
• The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the anatomy of a medium-sized corporate branch network (e.g. routing and switching, VLANs and trunking, and IP addressing and subnets.) Experience configuring hardware firewalls and VPN services is highly advantageous. Particular preference will be given to applicants holding CCNA or similar certification.
• Some experience with virtualisation technologies (especially Hyper-V, but also VMware or similar), and with scripting for systems automation (especially PowerShell, but also Ansible playbooks, bash, or similar) is desirable, though not essential. The successful applicant without experience in these areas will demonstrate willingness and motivation to learn about them.
• Any experience with diagramming in Microsoft Visio, deploying Microsoft Office 365, working with version control systems (especially git, but also SVN, Mercurial, or similar), or experimenting with cloud-based infrastructure solutions (especially AWS, but also Azure, or similar) is advantageous.
The Benefits Offered:
• Work alongside scientists and engineers in an energetic, stimulating and interdisciplinary environment to help build a Sonovate 2016 Top 50 Fastest Growing company at the forefront of the biotechnology revolution.
• Great opportunities for career progression and personal development. Let us invest in you with generous allowances for training courses, conferences and technical meetups.
• Assume responsibility for and ownership of your projects from day one. Know that your work will have a clear and visible impact on our day-to-day operations.
• Twenty-five days’ plus bank holidays’ annual leave, frequent company away days, flexible working hours, a relaxed and casual office culture, and an employer-matched pension scheme.
The position offered is full-time, to start immediately, working from our offices on The Oxford Science Park. The appointee will work closely with and report to our Head of Bioinformatics.
Applicants must be eligible to work in the UK without sponsorship
We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of their race, sex, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age
