Post Fixture Analyst: Leader in European Energy Trading & Shipping

This Global Trading & Shipping Company has an exciting opportunity for a Post Fixture Analyst who will be reporting to Freight Operations Manager, and/or Head of Solid Fuels Logistics. The Solid Fuels Desk, which is responsible for global coal, freight and biomass trading, including sourcing of steam coal and biomass for the client's coal generation assets in the UK and continental Europe.

The Freight Logistics team forms part of the desk and is responsible for managing the fulfilment and correct performance of physical dry bulk vessel charter contracts entered into by the Dry Bulk Freight Trading desk, while acting as the main point of contact for operational matters.

The purpose of this role is to optimise the P&L performance of the Dry Bulk Freight Trading desk by analysing and negotiating final freight and hire calculations, demurrage and other claims.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Preparation and calculation of demurrage claims, including analysis of charter parties and voyage documents, and verification of details with third parties where required.
  • Duties include Liaising with the internal legal team and P&I Club to report and obtain advice on the resolution of demurrage and other claims arising.
  • Negotiation with external parties of demurrage and other claims, disputes, and overdue or incorrect payments, following received advice where applicable, including resolution of claims and disputes in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Ensuring internal systems are updated to record the status of any ongoing claims and disputes and producing accurate reports outlining predicted and actual demurrage exposure to management and finance, providing commentary where necessary.
  • Providing support and guidance to operators to control and minimise demurrage exposure. Assisting chartering and operations with feedback on commercial terms; providing expert advice on laytime-related matters; identifying issues and proposing solutions.
  • Preparation of freight differential calculations and recoverable disbursement calculations.
  • Reviewing, interpreting and correctly applying contract clauses to ensure accurate final hire account settlement.
  • Drafting, reviewing and obtaining internal approval of letters of indemnity on operator request.

The Candidate:

  • Education to a Degree level or equivalent preferred
  • Awareness of shipping market terminology and practices is essential.
  • Prior experience of demurrage claim preparation and negotiation is required.
  • Experience in a commodities trading environment and/or a highly analytical role is strongly desired.
  • Familiarity with charter parties, charter party claims handling, or marine insurance is also desirable.
  • High standard of numeracy (minimum good A level Maths)
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, Excel in particular
  • Experience using Openlink Endur and/or Veson IMOS
