BMR Solutions are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Development Engineer to work for our client who are a large engineering / manufacturing company located in Clevedon, North Somerset.

Salary: GBP30,000.00 - GBP33,000.00

The role will involve:

??Working within a team alongside Engineers, Electrical Engineers and Mechanical Designers to deliver designs and supporting documentation varying from concept to full production machines.
??The need to work with various other departments including Documentation, Technology, Purchasing, Operations, Quality and Manufacturing.
??Project teams will vary in size from 5 to 20 people, none of which are direct reports. Each Project is led by a Project Lead who will oversee the day to day activities of delivering the project.
??The role will report into the ETO Lead Engineer (Mechanical) for functional management.

Principal Accountabilities:

??Support the Clevedon 'Engineered to Order' process through the design and development of products to fulfil customer requirements.
??Work in conjunction with a mixed discipline engineering team to develop design solutions.
??Work with mechanical designers to prepare designs / drawings for products and components for fit, form and function so that the end product operates effectively, reliably and safely.
??Work with mechanical designers to produce designs / drawings of products and components that can be manufactured efficiently and economically.
??Ensure high quality designs and drawings are produced to the relevant standards.
??Carry out design calculations as required to provide justification for design solutions.
??Carry out selection of components for design solutions, ensuring that all key requirements are met.
??Identify the need for validation testing and carry out all related tasks from planning and conducting testing to report writing.
??Creation of new part numbers, their definition and supporting documentation.
??Creation of Bill of Materials to support new designs.
??Work within company processes and procedures.
??Apply a sound understanding of Engineering Change processes and appreciation of the knock-on effect change has to other departments.
??Delivery of quality information to allow the creation of Manuals, Spares Lists, Bills of Materials and any other input required by "customers" (including "internal" customers - Operations, Purchasing etc.).
??Develop an understanding of manufacturing methods and processes used by company and ensure these are related to designs.
??Work within timescales set by the Project Leader / Manager and communicate all issues or delays.
??Where required, support any quality process improvement projects.
??Work in a safe and effective manner in compliance with the Company's Health and Safety policy and ensure that the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act are met.

Education / Experience / Skills:

??Good mechanically biased Engineering degree or other engineering qualification depending on experience.
??Good level of experience in a relevant product design or development role.
??Experience of working within a system or equipment design or development environment.
??Experience of design and risk analysis techniques such as FMEA, HAZOP, DFMEA etc.
??Experience in testing of equipment in support of design.
??Previous experience of Product Data Management software would be an advantage.
??Proficient in 3D CAD software, experience of using CATIA.
??Knowledge of BS 8888 and its application.
??Excellent attention to detail and commitment to engineering quality with a right first time approach.
??Good problem solving ability and design discipline with a suitable approach to all aspects of design.
??Knowledge of CE marking and EN standards (Machinery and Low Voltage directives desirable).
??Ability to perform engineering calculations in support of proposed designs.
??Good teamwork, customer/peer interaction and communication skills.
??Understanding of Piping and Instrumentation diagrams and system schematics is preferred.
??Good understanding of manufacturing processes and being able to produce designs that are efficient and economical.
??Good written and oral communication skills.
??Should be self-managing and motivated with the ability to plan and estimate the duration of assigned tasks.
??Positive attitude and ability to work under pressure.

Scope of role:

Design and develop engineering solutions from customer specifications for a variety of systems. The minimum document set produced includes:

??Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams.
??System Layout Drawings.
??Accurate Bills of Materials.
??Component selection justification.
??General Assembly Drawings.
??Bespoke component drawings.
