Role Summary:

The aim of this post is to ensure that volunteering is a positive, person-centred and fulfilling experience for all volunteers in Bolton.  The focus of this role will be to:

  • celebrate, champion and promote volunteering in Bolton.
  • develop the connectivity and visibility of the Bolton CVS Volunteer Centre across the borough.
  • strengthen relationships between the public sector, private sector and the voluntary and community sector in Bolton through developing and delivering a range of community events and activities.
  • maintain and further develop Bolton CVS’s Volunteer Centre Quality Accreditation.
  • develop a comprehensive programme of voluntary and community sector development to ensure that volunteering is accessible to diverse communities and to those individuals who aren’t actively engaged or who are excluded.
  • develop and support the Group Development Officers on all aspects of volunteering.
  • increase the number of people being connected to volunteering through the Bolton CVS Volunteer Centre and monitor their journey.
  • to seek income opportunities to develop and extend the volunteering services programmes at Bolton CVS.

To deliver a high quality and effective volunteer centre for Bolton.

To ensure an outstanding experience for all potential and existing volunteers requesting support, advice and information.

To promote good practice in volunteering as standard.

To actively promote and enable quality training and accreditation for volunteers and for managers of volunteers.

To develop partnership strategies and systems to effectively recruit, train and retain volunteers.

Champion and celebrate volunteering in Bolton.

To lead and develop the Group Development offer at Bolton CVS, ensuring volunteering is core to our organisation’s offer.

Main responsibilities

To ensure the smooth day to day running of Bolton CVS's Volunteer Centre.

To ensure the Volunteer Centre takes the lead to support the increase in volunteering in Bolton.

To contribute to strategic planning on volunteering at a local, regional and national level.

To lead and participate in campaigns on volunteer issues.

To make and sustain effective working relationships with key partners and to further develop opportunities for partnership working.

To assess the progress of volunteers in Bolton and develop case studies.

To lead training and learning opportunities for volunteers to build their skills and knowledge, including supporting induction and ongoing development with partner agencies.

To lead and develop the group development support offer at Bolton CVS.

Offer potential and existing volunteers support, advice and training.

Co-design and develop a range of innovative programmes of volunteering for Bolton in partnership with volunteer involving organisations and volunteers.

Lead and coach the staff and volunteer team at the Bolton CVS Volunteer Centre.

Increase the profile of, and access to, Bolton CVS’s Volunteer Centre and Volunteer Support Services.

Strengthen the Bolton CVS Volunteer Centre digital development and involvement solutions, including our website and database.

Complete funding applications and create new opportunities for developing Bolton CVS Volunteer Centre and supporting the future sustainability.

Gathering and collating quantitative and qualitative data about volunteering and volunteering involving organisations in Bolton on a regular basis.

Work with the Bolton CVS team to ensure that volunteer involving organisations receive support in other areas of their development.

Developing Volunteering

To co-ordinate and ensure the delivery and dissemination of good practice regarding volunteering locally via different forums and events.

To assist volunteer involving organisations to develop quality volunteering opportunities across Bolton.

To develop links and positive relationships with other agencies and groups to encourage and support volunteering from under-represented communities.

To work with the wider team to promote the understanding of volunteering across Bolton CVS.

To implement and develop Bolton CVS's framework for volunteering.

Line Management

To provide regular line management support, one to one's and appraisals.

Ensure staff training and development needs are met.

To ensure that the principle of 'One Bolton CVS' is embedded.

Other duties

To take responsibility for individual administration, delegating where necessary.

To attend Team Meetings, events and to undertake mandatory training.

To perform any other duties commensurate with these responsibilities, the grade of the post and skills and qualifications of the post-holder.

This post has been increased to full time through a strategic partnership with Bolton at Home and Bolton Council.  Partnership working across shared priority programmes will be expected.
