My well-known, leading provider of power solutions on a global scale, is looking for an Electronics Design Engineer to work specifically on the electrical hardware design of AC-DC switch-mode power supplies (SMPS). My significant client within the electronics industry is currently providing power supplies that are used mainly within a range of medical devices. The AC-DC Electronics Design Engineer will be responsible for the electrical hardware design of a wide range of AC-DC switch-mode power supplies (SMPS) used mainly within a range of medical devices. They will be required to provide technical expertise in new product design and modification of existing products as well as producing the specifications for the compliance of designs. The power supplies designed must be within the wattage range of 100W to 1,500W and must have an output voltage of 12V to 48V. The AC-DC Electronics Design Engineer will also need to ensure consistency in design reviews, verification, qualification efforts as well as ensuring the completeness of all documentation to assure smooth transition from product design and testing into manufacturing. Having a deep knowledge of EMC, thermals, magnetic design, analogue and some digital design is essential. You will be working within an R&D team of electrical, electronics, mechanical, manufacturing engineers and technicians on product design so good communication, team work and a personable nature is a must.

Key skills:

• 4+ years' experience in AC-DC switch-mode power supply (SMPS) design from conception to production
• Experience in a wide range of topologies, including LLC
• Power supplies designed must be within the wattage range of 100W to 1,500W and an output voltage of 12V to 48V
• Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering/Power Electronics or equivalent experience
• Experience in digital hardware design
• Deep knowledge of EMC, thermals, magnetic design, analogue and some digital design
• Experience in writing the designs' specification compliance
• Experience in component part selection taking into consideration obsolescence, availability and cost
• Ensure consistency in design reviews, verification and qualification efforts
• Must be competent in analytical, problem solving and planning/organisational skills
• Good quality management and having a cost consciousness focus is ideal
• Must have good written and oral communication
