Main purpose and scope of the post:

We are seeking to recruit a Lecturer in Carpentry and Joinery which involves managing the learning processes from student enrolment to assessing the outcomes of learning and achievement and all associated administration.

This role requires a high level of professional knowledge, experience and understanding of the subject area, along with a relevant degree or professional qualification.

Candidates will have relevant teaching experience along with a teaching qualification or a willingness to obtain one. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal and a commitment to equality of opportunity is essential.

All new lecturing staff must possess GCSE Maths and English (minimum Grade C) or equivalent or willingness to gain and it is desirable that candidates possess assessor or verifier awards or other appropriate specialist training qualification.

The successful candidate will be key in supporting the new Construction & Trades Centre at the College's City College East Campus on Wilson Avenue, designed to be a leading educational and training hub for Brighton & Hove's next generation of construction workers.

The GBP9m centre will enable students in the different trades to work together and follow each other through the construction process, mirroring real site conditions.

Construction is a booming sector in Brighton & Hove with major projects including Royal Sussex Hospital (GBP500m), Brighton Marina (GBP250m), Circus Street (GBP100m) and Brighton i360 (GBP46m).

In the South East region generally, construction sector growth over the next five years is estimated to deliver over 2,500 new jobs a year.
