A talented Experimental or Applied Physicist is required at an exciting Science & Technology Consultancy based in Cambridgeshire. This is an exciting opportunity for a versatile hands-on Physicist with solid applied physics skills to use their depth & breadth of scientific knowledge to solve real world problems and develop cutting-edge technologies. Make no mistake though - it may be called 'consultancy' but this is real, cutting edge R&D science! Projects are highly varied, always novel and span the fields of Scientific Instruments, Medical Devices, Biotechnology, Consumer Electronics and Robotics.
The Physicist will have excellent grasp of the fundamental physics principals as well as a broad technical experimental /applied skill base encompassing elements of Mechanical, Electronics and Software Engineering. You don't need to be an expert in these areas but you should at least be able to design a test rig and interface a sensor to an instrument which might just involve wielding a soldering iron and writing a few lines of control code! Above all, you will be naturally curious, creative and passionate about the real world application of Physics (and science in general) and how it can be used to generate new technologies and solutions to real world problems.
This is an exceptional opportunity for a bright physicist who is enthralled by all aspects of science and desires to apply their knowledge in a commercial setting. Projects are typically 3-6months duration and highly varied -boredom will never be an issue!
The company is also an excellent employer offering ongoing training and mentoring programmes, excellent future career opportunities and a highly competitive remuneration package.
The Physicist will:
- Develop solutions to challenging real-world technical problems
- Identify and research new technologies for possible commercial exploitation
- Be part of an international multi-disciplinary product development team;
- Design experimental apparatus and conduct proof-of-principle experiments
- Develop prototypes involving elements of electronics, optics, mechanics, etc
- Present results and findings to clients.
The Physicist will need the following:
- A Masters (Mphys/MSci ) 2.1 or above and /or a Doctorate PhD, EngD, DPhil in Physics or closely related discipline.
- A Broad physics knowledge covering first principals
- Intuitive understanding of how physics effects real world processes and products
- Strong analytical ability
- A "hands on" highly practical approach to physics experiments and instrumentation
- Ability to analyse a wide range of data, structure thoughts, draw robust conclusions and communicate them in a clear concise way.For further information about the role please contact Alex Hannigan-Train on **************/ ************
