Applications are invited for the above vacancy as an Asset Engineer within the Asset Strategy Team.
This vacancy is open to all UK Power Networks permanent and fixed-term employees as well as contractors and agency workers.
Background:
The role of Asset Management is to provide World Class Strategic Network Development and Asset Management of our public licensed networks - LPN, EPN and SPN.
The production of optimised whole life cycle strategies for the management of different assets to ensure the safety of the public, customers, staff and to meet all legal and regulatory obligationsThe production of long term network development plans to ensure the network is developed in an efficient way to meet future customer demandsThe production of annual network investment plans that balance the requirements of owners, users, customers and employeesEstablishing engineering standards for the design, development, operation and maintenance of the distribution networkProduction of plans to ensure Quality of Supply by minimising disruption to customer supplyTo develop the strategies, capabilities and skills for the development of Smart Grid. Job Purpose:
The Asset Strategy team are responsible for developing, implementing and overseeing the delivery of asset replacement strategies and plans that ensure that our network is operated safely and securely whilst offering significant value to customers and shareholders. We are responsible for the health of network assets at all voltages.
This includes developing a suite of leading asset modelling capabilities, ensuring network assets comply with relevant legislation, the development of generic asset replacement and defect management programmes that ensure target asset health indices are achieved. Critical to this role is the ability to identify innovative refurbishment, replacement and maintenance interventions that will enable cost outperformance in achieving asset health index and risk targets.
Asset Engineers champion enhanced safety performance and behaviours that reduce risks to the public and employees. Asset Engineers exhibit a strong customer service ethos, both internally and externally, and deliver against challenging budgets.
The successful candidate will need to build strong relationships with teams across UK Power Networks and its contractors. The role therefore requires effective interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate clearly and confidently at all levels of the organisation.

Principal Accountabilities:
The successful candidate will possess a thorough understanding of the design and operation of the equipment and network owned and operated by UK Power Networks.
A principle accountability of this vacancy is to develop and manage the asset replacement strategy for distribution voltage level assets and therefore any specific experience in this area will be seen as an advantage. There will always however be regular opportunities to expand knowledge and experience in other areas.
You will need to be able to think logically and strategically to engage, communicate, listen, motivate and inspire achievement of challenging stretch targets and engineering problems.
Typical accountabilities will include;
Developing innovative asset refurbishment and replacement programmes due to condition and asset health, prioritising and optimising non-load related investment during RD1 and beyond.Developing and maintaining reliable and accurate Health Indices (HI), Criticality Indices (CI) and Risk Indices (RI) as per requirements of ED1.Creating asset strategies and interventions to minimise the backlog of defects and ensure ESQCR compliance.Help support compliance and the relationship with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) over asset related matters associated with ESQCR compliance.Providing real time asset management response and technical support.Support the collation and production of RIGS.Support the development of the Common Network Asset Indices (CNAIM) models and own non-load related asset investment optimisation activities.Carrying out asset fault rate analysis.Carrying out asset engineering condition assessments and creating asset condition reportsCarrying out major network incident reviews.Carrying out asset risk assessments as required, maintaining an asset risk log and overseeing appropriate interventions to manage asset related risks.Seeking financial approval at the appropriate stage of development for projects managed in this role.Support production and maintenance of the Asset Stewardship Reports.Reviewing and developing Engineering Policy and Standards.Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
Ideally an HND or degree in engineering or science or equivalent experience.Broad engineering experience of the operation and management of an Electrical Distribution Network.Safety management qualification such as IOSH certificate or equivalent is preferred.Chartered status or working towards membership of a professional body such as the IET or IAM.Project/programme management qualification at APMP / Prince2 level or equivalent is desirable but not essential. Should you not currently possess the full range of essential skills, qualifications and competencies listed above, there may be an opportunity for further training to equip the successful candidate appropriately.
