Body Engineering Manager - McLaren Special Operations

McLaren Special Operations create cars around an owner's precise tastes, and provide everything from bespoke customisation options through to building ultra-exclusive limited-edition or one-off breath-taking models.

Following the launch of the 720S at Geneva, MSO displayed Velocity to give customers a taste of the levels of customisation available to them through MSO.

As we continue to grow as an organisation we are now looking for a Body Engineering manager to join our MSO Engineering team.

Purpose of the role:

You will be responsible for leading and developing all aspects of Body Engineering within MSO (BiW, Exterior, Interior, CAS and Safety). The Body Engineering Manager will have responsibility for the delivery of all Body Systems and be responsible for monitoring Investment, resource and BOM Cost.

Principal accountabilities:

- Lead your team to deliver all systems in line with targets, KPI's and milestones set by the MDP and Vehicle Line management leaders, on multiple vehicle programmes
- Promote, implement and support a Simultaneous approach to Body Styling, Design and Engineering
- Optimise team structure, leadership, planning, monitoring and control to guarantee breathtaking projects on time, on quality and within budget
- Establish new vehicle donor BoMs and manage evolution through target setting, concept, release and production phases
- Work alongside Project Managers and Vehicle Engineering to lead the design and development of components and systems to ensure optimised vehicle performance
- Establish sourcing & supply chain strategies in association with purchasing and material control to ensure delivery of components and systems on schedule for all phases of prototype, pre-production and production build
- Develop a high level of technical competence within the in-house team in order to provide a significant and immediate DFM support to the design process without necessarily relying on suppliers
- Ensure design for manufacture and compliance with global legislation and quality standards of all components and systems
- Manage project change control for body systems, offering aggressive cost & timing studies to support robust, timely project decision making and implementation

Knowledge, skills & experience:

- Automotive design and development experience
- Ability to lead & develop a high performing cross functional team
- Excellent systems design and development knowledge.
- Experience in component release management and problem solving.
- Ideally have experience of high and niche vehicle (low volume) programmes
- PC literate, at ease with MS Office products.
- Engineering degree
