Editorial & Information Officer – Media & Communications Department (Ref: 597)

The Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers is the UK's fourth largest and fastest growing trade union, with over 430,000 members.

The vacancy is based at the Union’s Central Office in Fallowfield, Manchester.

The salary is £39,251 pa rising to £44,591 pa after successful completion of the probationary period. There are no set hours for this position and the postholder will be expected to be adaptable to meet the needs of the service, which could include travel over a wide geographical area and overnight stays.

The successful applicant will be required to live within 50 miles of their office base.

The principal duties are to act as News Editor; to write, edit and publish the Union’s magazines Arena and Network, prepare and edit content for the website and other communications, deal with media enquiries in the absence of the Media Officer, prepare scripts and interview questions for Union videos and participate as part of a management team in the strategic direction and development of the Union’s communications and media work.

The successful applicant will possess the NCTJ Journalism qualification or similar qualification or have equivalent experience. Experience in reporting, feature writing and publishing are an essential feature of this role.
