North Cambridge Academy is looking to appoint a Graduate Assistant to Sport and PE. The successful candidate will work in the Sport and Physical Education department at North Cambridge Academy for a fixed period of 12 months during term time from 29th August 2017 to 30th August 2018. The successful applicant will be asked to work on Saturdays and will have, with negotiation, one full day off during the week.

The role is an exciting opportunity for a graduate considering a career in the Sports Industry or in teaching. The position will offer a comprehensive experience developing skills in a supportive and collegiate environment. The opportunity will act as an excellent introduction to a PGCE teaching qualification or serve as a way in to professional work in the Sports Industry.

The successful candidate will be fully immersed in the day to day life within the vibrant Sport and PE department and will have the opportunity to effectively manage sport and PE sessions, working with and supported by the PE teaching staff, external coaches and sporting organisations. The successful candidate will also be asked to participate in the school's extra- curricular programme.

The successful candidate should possess:

  • An Interest in sport and a willingness to assist in lessons and fixtures;
  • Experience and interest in coaching (we are particularly keen to hear from candidates with a background in tennis); 
  • A healthy sense of humour and can-do attitude; 
  • An interest in sport in education and the importance and benefits of sport and exercise to self-confidence, discipline and team-working;
  • Experience in working with young people;  
  • Ability to work independently, quickly and efficiently;
  • Excellent time keeping and organisational skills;
  • Up-to date knowledge in relation to working with, and the protection of, children and young people;
  • Proven communication, organisational and interpersonal skills;
  • Respect and value the different experiences, ideas and backgrounds others can bring to work and to teams;
  • Confidence, tenacity, flexibility and adaptability;
  • Empathy for pupils, parents, staff and the community;
  • High order administrative skills;

North Cambridge Academy has a working relationship with Norwich City Football Club, Cambridge Gymnastics Association, Cambridge United Football Club, British Cycling and Cambridge Junior Cycling.  There is an on-site state of the art, fully equipped gymnastics facility; sporting facilities, including a large sports hall and extensive rugby and football pitches. We are also looking forward to realising the development of new tennis courts due for completion in October 2017. We are therefore particularly interested in hearing from candidates with a background in tennis.
