ABOUT US
The Woodland Trust's vision is of a country rich in native woods and trees, for people and for wildlife. The Trust aims to engage and inspire people to help us meet our vision of creating, restoring and protecting woodland. At the Woodland Trust we influence policy makers to work with us. We do this to ensure society fully maximises the benefits of our woodland in the 21st century.
THE ROLE
The Public Affairs Officer will assist in delivering the Trust's campaigns and external affairs strategy. As part of the role you will monitor local authority and Scottish Government policy; developing opportunities with key decision makers. An integral part of this is the ability to influence developing local authority policy. You'll manage relationships with Councillors and MSP Species Champions; Building strong partnerships with eNGO's and assisting with the research of Woods Under Threat.
THE CANDIDATE
You'll possess outstanding written and verbal communication skills and an understanding of how to deploy them within a political context. The Public Affairs Officer will have knowledge of current affairs and must be able to demonstrate experience of influencing policy. Experience in building strategic relationships with decision-makers and policy influencers is a must. Existing knowledge of Scotland's politics is desirable.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
There's no other organisation like the Woodland Trust. Whatever you do here you will be supporting our work to protect and enhance woods and trees. In return we recognise and value our people. You'll have our full support, training and opportunities for professional development, along with a contributory pension, life assurance and good holiday entitlement.
