The Technical Authority participates as a key member of the Platform & Operations Leadership team to deliver exceptional services to our customers. The role operates in conjunction with functions such as Availability Management, Capacity Planning, Lifecycle Management and Security, and alongside other Functional leadership roles including Availability Management, Capacity Planning, Lifecycle Management, Transition to Support, Security and Problem Management. There are a number of Technical Authorities roles responsible for Products including Enterprise Cloud Compute, Cloud Native Infrastructure, Cloud Storage, Connectivity, Cloud Intensive Infrastructure, Data Centre and Internal IT.
The Technical Authority will evangelise innovative practices and ensure that the current and future product needs are the key focus for the product team. The role is highly influential and strong technical skills will be necessary to work directly as part of the Product team as required. Maintaining detailed Product knowledge and hands on capability will be key to achieving success and representing the needs of the Product team and customers.
About:
  • Driving the Product team to deliver high levels of operational Availability, whilst ensuring that other key deliverables are maintained at all times. These include Capacity Planning, Lifecycle Management, Transition to Support, Security and Problem Management.
  • Nuturing and demonstrating through example, Continuous Improvement practices across the Product team to ensure we iterate improvements
  • Ensure Automation and Agile methodologies are embraced by the Product Team to improve the ability to deliver at speed with repeatable outcomes and minimising Human intervention and error
  • Collaborate with Functional owners to ensure that plans across the organisation are consistent, achievable and delivered to commitments
  • Overview of Product status and progress against agreed targets providing insightful Management Information to enable data driven decision making
  • Close collaboration and co-operation with the Office of the CTO (OCTO) and their extended team to drive coherent and consistent decision making

Essential Requirements:

  • Proven ability to drive improvements and positive outcomes in a technical arena
  • Strong understanding and experience with Agile methodologies
  • Commitment to Automated and innovative techniques
  • Strong Technical skills across UKCLoud technologies including VMware, OpenStack, Storage, Networking and specific knowledge (and preferably certifications in)
    • High Performance Compute solutions
    • Oracle platforms
    • Scale Out Storage solutions such as ISILON
    • Virtualisation - large scale VMware vSphere, vCloud Director (VCAP certifications desirable)
    • Core DC technologies - servers, networks and storage (SAN)
    • Operating Systems - Windows and Linux (especially RHEL and CentOS)
    • Networks and Security - TCP/IP in multi-tier network infrastructure, routing, firewalling, switching, IPSEC and SSL-VPN, virtualised Networking/NSX
  • Strong influencing skills to achieve positive outcomes
  • Agree common purpose, providing direction, and clear remit, and empowering team to work together across functions.
