Electronics Software Engineer, Embedded, Blyth, GBP38,000

My client a fifth-generation family-run company, has around 10,000 employees world-wide and realised global sales of 1.8 billion euros in 2007, it has been a publicly traded company since 1979 and is listed on Germany's TecDAX index, devoting 6.7 percent of annual sales to research and development. Established as an employer in Blyth since 1965, it has 400 employees and they are crucial to the success of the group, whilst being recognised as a Centre of Excellence in the field of Design and Manufacture of Compressed Air Breathing Equipment.

Electronics Software Engineer

The main purpose of the role will be to develop embedded electronic products (firmware and hardware) for fire-fighter protection equipment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

- Firmware and hardware design for existing and new products within the R & D Department
- Research into potential new technologies
- Be a point of knowledge for electronic technical queries within the department
- Follow correct reporting procedures and project management guidelines
- Resolve technical issues that may occur

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

- Degree in Electronic/Software Engineering or equivalent
- Strong firmware skills using structured and OO methodologies
- Experience of programming with safety related systems with defensive/robust programming
- Experience with source code control, MISRA C, Lint, QA-C or similar
- Ability to apply safety lifecycles and 'V' development model
- Strong skills in unit testing, verification and validation
- Hardware design

Credentials and Experience

- Must be a strong, highly motivated person able to work on their own initiative
- Team player able to both lead and contribute to teams.
- Can demonstrate success in development of new electronic products from concept to manufacture.
- Analytical approach always goes for route cause of issues, not the 'easy fix'
- Result orientated who agrees deadlines and does what is necessary to ensure deadlines are met.
- Must be flexible and willing to work with all areas of the Company, in particular Manufacturing, Marketing and Quality.
- Willing to take in a wide variety of tasks to get the job done.
- Experience in Total quality Environment essential.
