Generating electricity is a huge responsibility, which is why we want experienced engineers to help us deliver this. From nuclear to coal, gas and renewables, our work extends to the full energy mix. The roles we offer within each of those areas are every bit as diverse. At EDF Energy, we're on a journey to change the way people use energy for generations to come.
A strong, competent and respected internal regulator is essential for the long term success of EDF Energy and our industry. Independent Nuclear assurance (INA) has been working hard to build on the strong foundations built up over successive years and is now seen as one of the leaders in this field of our industry.
Regardless of location, the work consists of on-site inspections and data analysis to identify regulatory compliance shortfalls and adverse trends associated with nuclear safety; the understanding of which will allow the station to improve its operational and safety performance.
Occasionally, the role will also require some off-site travel to support surveillance activities at other stations within the UK fleet. Good written and spoken communications and strong relationship building skills are vital to ensure candidates can succeed in what is recognised as a particularly challenging and rewarding role. Recent senior level Operations / operational experience is important in this role and for that reason the positions are open to internal, external, and international candidates.
Training will be provided for the role through a formal qualification and mentoring process, however, in the first instance candidates should come with a good understanding of regulatory frameworks and the principles of nuclear oversight.
Principal accountabilities will be through the Site INA Group Head and INA Regional Manager to ensure that a quality service is being provided on behalf of the function. In post, the function is to provide an independent perspective to the Operations Shift Managers on the status of nuclear safety and operational decision making.
The position requires the knowledge and experience of senior DAPs who have held the position of either Shift Manager, Assistant Shift Manager or Control Room Supervisor. Typical experience and attributes that we are looking for are:
Experience at a senior level of managing shift Operations personnel.
A track record of influencing high levels of performance within the nuclear power Operations environments.
Excellent analytical skills to support critical reviews of performance observation.
Clear, concise communication skills for delivering verbal or written feedback in a simple manner.
Good interpersonal skills and an ability to influence at all levels in the organisation.
Ability to build relationships and team working at all levels in the organisation in order to establish networks and optimise their use for gathering and sharing intelligence.
Ability to challenge and coach at all levels in a constructive manner.
The character to deliver difficult messages in potentially challenging situations.
Ability to think 'outside the box' as a means reducing the risks from 'group think'.
