Machine Controller – Apprenticeship
Machine Controller – Apprenticeship
Starting at c£12,500 per annum
There are three distinct areas within the MINI Plant, Body In White, Paint and Assembly; our largest technology is Assembly which brings everything together. The Assembly hall is a blend of our critical manufacturing associates supported by high level technology which works together to meet our quality and volume targets. There are around 2,772,000 components that are required to build the target of 1,000 iconic MINIs every day. To ensure production works efficiently we need to train machine controllers to monitor, optimise and carry out production based maintenance in the technology related areas of our production system. Machine controllers have to ensure that technical production facilities are always working to the optimum efficiency.
Training consist of the study of modern state of the art automotive production technology, as well as the latest innovations in manufacturing techniques. Our core engineering training covers electronics, pneumatics, electrical, PLCs, hydraulics, welding, milling, turning, basic hand skills as well as general mechatronics engineering.
This training takes place in our onsite apprentice training facility called the MINIcademy.
You will be supporting the assembly team at Plant Oxford who are responsible for the rapid detection, rectification and prevention of faults and optimisation of equipment, within our manufacturing facilities. Your eventual role will be to take responsibility for a designated area of the production system to monitor, optimise and continually improve the area to ensure it is running at maximum efficiency, your goal is to become a productive member of these elite teams responsible for the future of MINI.

The two year programme is designed to enable you to experience different aspects of Engineering and production technology including: hand-skills, machining, fluid power, electronics, welding, robotics, control systems and many more. You will then select to specialise for the remainder of the course in your ‘home’ department.
Our advisors are always available to provide individual support and guidance, enabling you to customise training to suit your skills.
In your first year, you will undertake practical training to qualify you with all the necessary elements of core engineering skills (L2 engineering) supported by all elements of a Level 2 apprenticeship programme. Following this you will also be required to complete a competency based qualification based on production and technical systems in the business.
