Specifications Technologist (Food)Salary: Circa GBP30k + BenefitsLocation: Rochester, KentRef: CDE00040If Food Specification Technology is your thing then this could be your recipe for some serious career progression!I'm exclusively recruiting for a Specifications Technologist to join the Technical & Quality Function of an ambitious food company based in Kent with some serious expansion plans for the future.With two manufacturing facilities (ready meals and dry packaged products) supplying the major multiple retailers with as many as 350 SKU's with instantly recognisable branding, an annual turnover of GBP80m, this will be a key role within the team.Reporting to the Technical Manager, as the Specifications Technologist for both facilities, you will be primarily:
* Managing raw material, finish product and packaging specifications for the two manufacturing operations* Liaising with retailers and company marketing to ensure all specifications and labels are up to date and legal.* Working with marketing to ensure all future product launches comply from a technical perspective.
Other key tasks and responsibilities will include:
* Ensuring that customer specifications for new and existing products are completed and maintained as per the required standard.* Reviewing supplier specifications (raw materials and packaging) to ensure they contain correct information and be confident to challenge their content.* Maintaining existing specifications through a review programme within agreed timescales to support company due diligence.* Translating recipes and supplier specifications into customer specification format.* Interpreting nutritional analysis and running calculations to review against criteria.* Be involved with art work approval and sign off to ensure legal compliance.* Supporting any customer audits e.g. BRC, Tesco PIU etc.* Handling queries for both internal and external customers e.g. on ingredients.* Supporting the process team on a day to day basis including factory based trials and attendance to customer panels when required.* Cooperating in maximal synergy with the other members of the technical team, with customer and the sales team* Providing cover for QA colleagues due to absence/ holidays as required
To be considered for the role, you will have:
* Excellent technical knowledge of food labelling and relevant legislation, a degree level qualification in a food related subject area is also highly desirable.* Proven experience of writing and updating specifications for major UK retailers, ideally Sainsbury's, Waitrose, ASDA, Coop, ALDI and Tesco.* Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office and retailer portal systems operated by Oracle (Micros).* Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build relationships. * Strong attention to detail.* Fluent English speaking ability, however the ability to communicate (speak, read and write) in the German language would be a massive plus and could see your application go to the top of the short-list.
This is planned to be a day's based role (37.5 hours per week), Monday to Friday (ideally 9am to 5pm per day with 1 hour unpaid break) and my client will even consider flexible working over the 5 days, however due to the business criticality of the role you will be expected to have a flexible attitude to getting the required work completed to suit the business's priorities.
