The Canute Group are looking to recruit for a Senior Transport Planner to be based at our Warrington depot (Golbourne).

This role has overall responsibility for the management of the Transport Planning and the delivery of the agreed service levels. This is to include the management of resources including vehicles, equipment, procedures and systems to create, within agreed cost structures, a transport plan which will ensure delivery of ‘best in class’ customer service, operational excellence and legal compliance.

Managing customer relationships, delivering on key performance indicators and ensuring standard operating procedures are followed at all times are an essential part of this role.

The hours of work are Monday to Friday with hours planned to suit to requirements of the business, the salary band for the role is £45,000 - £55,000 depending on experience.

As a Senior Transport Planner your duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Execute all customer deliveries with both own and networked fleet whilst working to strict adherence with regards to SLA's and within the agreed rate mechanism
  • Continuously re-evaluating fleet performance in order to identify efficiencies within the fleet and network whilst seeking out future opportunities
  • Strong people management and being able to influence the team to ensure tasks are completed
  • Accountable for P&L performance and be able to account for depot performance along with corrective action to senior management
  • Undertake investigations and disciplinary action as and when required and in line with company policies
  • Experience of interfacing with customers and dealing with their requests in a calm and efficient manner
  • Standing in for the Depot Manager when required in all Depot duties and responsibilities
  • Good knowledge of EHS fleet practices and ensuring full driver compliance in all EHS matters
  • Excellent knowledge of working time directive and ensuring drivers remain compliant
  • Responsible for maintaining all equipment in line with the businesses legal obligations in all O'Licence matters
  • Being able to work within a team from a network perspective in order to see the bigger picture and what's best for the company
  • Recruit, develop, retain, motivate and provide leadership for your transport team, ensuring they have clear objectives in order to meet the goals of the business
  • Ensure the transport team maintain their focus on meeting customer expectations, in controlling costs and on continuous improvement in all transport and activities
  • To monitor activities and improve working methods to ensure transport delivery procedures and processes achieve best practice standards and are able to meet the changing needs of the business and customers
  • To communicate effectively at all levels, both internally and externally. To manage and improve staff morale and working conditions through pro-active and appropriate 2-way communication and employee recognition

An ideal Senior Transport Planner will have the following skills and qualifications:

  • CPC qualification, and experiencing in being the named O'Licence holder
  • Experience within a fast paced pressurised 3PL / multi-customer environment adhering to strict delivery performance criteria
  • Financial acumen; Cost and P&L management
  • Knowledge of health and safety and vehicle procedures and legislation
  • Strong communication skills
  • Knowledge of GTS would be an advantage
  • Good with Excel/power point packages
