Job Title: Accounts Assistant / Management Accountant
Location: York
Salary: £23,000
Job Role: Full Time, Permanent
The company is looking for a Management Accountant or an experienced Accounts Assistant ready for the next challenge to join their team in York. The company is the leading operator of passenger services on the River Thames and York, carrying in excess of 3 million people annually on its extensive sightseeing, entertainment and charter services.
In addition to London and York, the company also operates from Poole Quays and Swanage in Dorset. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the integrity all the financial ledgers for the York office by accurately and efficiently posting all the daily banking, sales and purchase ledger transactions into the ledgers and making all relevant month and year-end adjustments. In addition to this, you will be required to produce the monthly Management Accounts for review by Finance Director by a set timetable, apply all the principles of financial and management accounting to prepare financial reports and ensure that all statutory required returns and payments are made according to the required deadlines. Although the role is based in York, you will be reporting directly to our Finance Director in London.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare Management Accounts for review by Finance Director.
- Prepare control account reconciliations on a monthly basis to include supporting documents for review by Head Office and Auditors.
- Preparation and reconciliation of accruals, prepayments, fixed assets and stock.
- Produce and maintain a 13 week rolling Cash Forecast.
- Prepare and monitor the annual budget on a monthly basis.
- Produce mid-term Forecasts.
- Produce weekly KPI's for weekly review with the Senior Management Team.
- Accurately code and post into the Finance System the Sales and Purchase ledger transactions.
- Reconcile the bank accounts for York to include current, floats and petty cash accounts.
- Prepare the Quarterly VAT returns.
- Make all payments to include; Suppliers, Expenses, HMRC and Payroll.
- Collate and check all timesheets for Payroll purposes.
- Assist/ Manage the Payroll process.
- Create and maintain personnel records for all employees including holiday entitlement.
- Process all expense claims and credit card expenses.
- Review and recommend any potential savings on overheads.
- Provide adequate cover for Cashier position.
- Credit Control.
- Ensure all Purchase Orders are raised in accordance to company policy and recorded electronically, and that all expenditure is covered by a Purchase Order.
- Extract and record sales from the bespoke booking systems.
- Contribute to and attend the Quarterly Finance team's company objectives programme (VTO Process).
- Assist with audits.
Educational Level/Qualifications:
- Part or Fully -Qualified Accountant/Qualified by experience.
Experience/Knowledge:
- Experience of working in accounts at least 3 years.
- Knowledge of Excel and ability to create, manipulate and maintain spreadsheets.
- Knowledge of Sage accounting packages.
