Meadows Care in Birmingham provide therapeutic residential care services to young people who are ‘Looked After’ aged between 10-18 years. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, committed and enthusiastic Clinical Psychologist to join our Birmingham team to cover maternity leave, with the potential to continue into a permanent post thereafter. The post will be based in Birmingham City and will provide psychological input into Meadows Care homes across Birmingham (currently 4 homes). We are looking for a qualified Clinical Psychologist with experience of providing psychological assessment and interventions for young people presenting with complex mental health and social care needs. Good experience of providing consultation to individuals and teams, teaching/training is also essential.
Meadows Care is an integrated therapeutic service and so there is considerable emphasis on being a member of the care team and working closely with all levels of staff from support workers to managers and senior managers.
The successful applicant will take a lead on therapeutic care provided within Birmingham homes (currently 4 homes) and will also be part of the wider multi-disciplinary therapy service located in the North-West, consisting of Clinical Psychologists, CBT practitioners, a play therapist, art therapist and a systemic practitioner.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential Criteria
- Doctoral level training in Clinical Psychology accredited by the BPS.
- Registration with the HCPC as a Clinical Psychologist (or other relevant domain as agreed by the Director of Therapy)
- Experience of working with young people with complex presentations who may be difficult to engage (e.g. LAC, CAMHS, YOT)
- Further training or significant experience in therapeutic models or approaches relevant for young people (e.g. DDP, CFT, Mentalisation, DBT)
- Post qualification experience which demonstrates a range of skills in conducting specialist assessments to inform psychological formulation and therapeutic interventions, in addition to evaluating their own practice and measuring outcomes.
- Ability to provide psychological consultation, lead reflective practice sessions and collaborative care planning, and deliver formal and informal specialist training to staff teams and individuals.
- Ability to apply knowledge of psychological theories to health and social care.
- Advanced oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate complex concepts, formulations and sensitive information to young people, carers/families and professionals; additionally, the ability to develop comprehensive and professional psychological assessment reports which outline recommendations for future work.
- Ability to demonstrate good organisational skills and work autonomously to manage the competing demands of the role.
- A commitment to integrate within care teams and work closely with support staff, managers and senior managers.
- To be able to contribute to statutory reviews and a range of other professional meetings, including at times providing evidence that may be used within family law proceedings.
