Teachers (Residential) - Oxford University

From 16th July to 21st August

Oxford Spires runs all year round integration and language school programmes offering residential and non-residential courses for young people. Students attending our schools receive 15-21 hours of English language tuition per week and a comprehensive programme of activities and excursions. We are British Council Accredited, a member of English UK and English UK Young Learners, and strive to offer the highest quality learning experiences for all students who attend our schools.

Overview

To deliver engaging EFL lessons to junior learners to a high professional standard and, as part of the summer school team, strive to ensure that each student has a safe, enjoyable and beneficial summer school experience.

Key Duties

Teaching

Plan, prepare and deliver engaging, communicative, and appropriate English lessons following the weekly theme, using materials provided and/or your own resources
Deliver and oversee weekly placement testing, including marking, for all new students
Attend weekly meetings with all teaching staff to review weekly teaching plans and aims
Prepare and deliver academic-based workshop classes following pre-set guidelines (as required)
Communicate regularly and effectively with fellow teaching staff and the Senior Teacher to ensure that all students receive equal high standards of tuition
Complete training as required, attend professional development sessions, planning sessions and all meetings

Student Welfare

When required, assist with student supervision during break and lunch times
Complete any necessary paperwork, eg registers
All staff have a responsibility for implementing Oxford Spires Language School policies and procedures, and representing the school to the highest standard
Help to maintain student behaviour, safety and welfare.
Supervise airport arrivals and departures as necessary
Take part in rota for supervision of evening activities and full day weekend off site excursions
Take part in the overnight on call duty rota, usually once a week
All staff are expected to assist with keeping the premises and company equipment clean, safe and in good order
Undertake other duties, appropriate to your post, as may reasonably be required by Oxford Spires Language School

Essential requirements

CELTA, CertTESOL or equivalent qualification
Excellent spoken and written English language skills
Genuine interest in the teaching and welfare of students
A patient and understanding approach to teaching
Ability to create a positive rapport in the classroom
A flexible, co-operative and responsible attitude
Ability to work as part of a team, and also to use own initiative
All staff will be subject to safeguarding checks including an enhanced DBS disclosure

Desirable attributes

Previous experience of working with young people at an EFL summer school
Previous teaching experience in a multilingual classroom
DELTA, DipTESOL, PGCE or Master's in TEFL
First aid certificate
Full, clean driving license
