Job Description:

Due to an increase in workload, we are seeking a chartered civil engineer to be based in the rail team in our London office to provide technical oversight on a range of projects, and also assist in design management/commission management. Many of the schemes are multi-disciplinary and will require liaison with project teams of varying complexity and size. A large proportion of our work is undertaken within frameworks and will consequently require the need to be seconded into a client office from time to time. The post may require visits to various site locations on the national rail network, stations/tracks/depots and the like. There may also be some limited requirements to make visits to site during engineering hours. The job holder will manage the technical delivery of projects, supervising engineering activities across the full Project Lifecycle including developing the scope and requirements, managing the production and approval of designs and assurance deliverables. Job Responsibilities/ Accountabilities You will work with our team of rail engineers, (civil, p'way and systems specialists) to ensure engineering solutions on an individual project meet the stated requirements and applicable standards and are delivered to programme. This will include; * Overseeing inputs of more junior staff to the planning, investigation, design, construction and post construction monitoring of geotechnical aspects of projects * Assist in managing projects and liaising with other project managers * Assist in tracking of project programmes and delivery dates * Undertake technical reviews and checking * Liaising with contractors and clients, both external and internal * Assistance to others with bidding (technical) * Assist in managing and co-ordinating structural and temporary works packages ensuring compliance with design, applicable standards, specifications and procedures * Provide technical advice to project teams within area of expertise and contribute to successful system integration through involvement of relevant discipline engineers and other parties * Follow the engineering control processes, programme-level and project-level plans * Monitor works on site and contractors' performance against agreed inspection and test plans (ITPs) and facilitating the smooth inspection of works by appointed accredited engineers in line with the Inspection process * Ensure Construction methodologies are to standard and design * Making engineering judgments on site change requests and alternative design proposal * You may also be required to provide leadership, advice and support to their direct reports and also ensure they develop individuals and staff to establish a highly motivated team Job requirements/ responsibilities and experience; * Analyse complex data, draw conclusions, produce reports and make recommendations to senior management * Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people at all levels across the organisation and externally * Build effective working relationships, with people at all levels across the organisation and externally and to influence * Assist in planning, implementing and managing projects to deliver to time, budget and quality * Work in multidisciplinary teams to deliver effective performance * Use office based computer packages, e.g. MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) to basic level * Knowledge of good industry practice * Evidence of working with Civil/Structural Engineering designers, co-ordination of multi-disciplines requirements with the development of civil engineering and multi-discipline solutions * Understanding of safety legislation and operating rules and regulations * Capability to undertake quality inspections and site investigations * Knowledge of LUL Standards and processes * Understanding of risk management principles * Knowledge of contractual arrangements that apply * Previous experience of working as a Project Engineer with a team on complex high value projects * Provide professional and technical advice, guidance and support on design and construction issues * Experience of project delivery in structural or civil area * Carry out technical document review and analysis * Experience in underground railways * Build relationships with, and influencing, a range of people at all levels within and outside the organisation * Regeneration of railway properties The minimum qualifications for this position are: * First degree (MEng or BEng) in civil engineering, * A post-graduate qualification (MSc or PhD) is desirable * Chartered Member of the ICE or IStructE * Graduate Member of the ICE or IStructE with post graduate design experience Our Culture: Safety & health conscious, flexible working conditions, collaborative & friendly with regular social activities.
