Hygiene Team Leader

Reports to:

Hygiene Manager

External partners including Suppliers & Customers

Job Purpose:

To maintain and enhance hygiene standards across Bigham’s on a day-to-day basis through the co-ordination and organisation of a small team.

Key accountabilities

  1. EH&S - management, the safety of the team and working environment
  2. Food Safety & Quality – delivering the Bigham’s standard
  3. Culture – Embed, maintain and develop the Bigham’s culture
  4. Labour Cost / Efficiency delivery
  5. Maintain materials variance consistently
  6. People Development - Train the team in roles and responsibilities regarding goals and targets in line with operations strategy
  7. Maintenance of metrics, reports, process documentation, customer service logs and other necessary documents to successfully complete the role

Responsibilities:

  • Through effective management of the hygiene team, ensure that Bigham’s is kept clean and tidy – throughout production, all external areas, offices, toilets and cafe.
  • Ensure clear ways of working and training standards are in place for all activities, and that these are supported by a training plan to engage and empower the team to become multi-skilled
  • Replenish clean uniforms throughout the production shift and organise the transfer of dirty laundry
  • Maintain stocks of PPE and disposables and ensure availability to all departments throughout the production shift
  • Ensure that the hygiene team work safely within the COSSH guidelines and follow the appropriate training
  • Through the hygiene team manage the tray wash area to ensure all equipment is washed to the correct standards in a timely manner. 
  • Ensure the transfer of waste from the production kitchen and other collection points within Bigham’s, ensuring waste segregation and correct recycling procedures are followed.
  • Liaise with the waste contactors to organise removal of rubbish and recyclable materials – maintaining minimal costs
  • Manage the hygiene team rota (including staff holidays and planning for absence within team) ensuring all duties are covered and completed on a daily basis.
  • Training new staff in hygiene all procedures and ensure documents are kept up to date
  • In the absence of the Hygiene Manager, work autonomously and escalate as required
  • Analyses problems and drive on route cause to deliver on KPI’s
  • Understand and adhere to labour budgets
  • Develop a multi-skilled team
  • Drive a culture of change, by engaging, coaching and developing the Bigham’s teams
  • Lead and manage your team through role model behavior, ensuring results are maintained, displayed and communicated, to be achieved on time and in full
  • Complete RTW’s, shift reports and other paperwork, in a timely manner
  • Maintain GMP standards
  • Safe systems of work / risk assessments
  • Give regular feedback to the team on personal and team performance through team briefs, progress reviews and 1-1’s
  • Multi-skilled and able to work in all areas
