Description

The purpose of the position is to undertake the site's analytical requirements to ensure permit compliance is achieved at all times. This will include the upkeep of quality systems, working closely with the Transfer Station and Bulk Waste Manager whilst liaising with the operators.

Duties

  • Ensuring that implemented procedures and quality systems are complied with at all times
  • Follow site acceptance, sampling and compatibility procedures according to WM3 to correctly assess and characterise incoming packaged hazardous waste loads
  • Ensure all documentation is completed correctly including consignment notes, waste acceptance forms and waste tracking system.
  • Follow non-conformance and quarantine procedures where applicable
  • Understand available treatment routes to enable routing of waste streams to the most appropriate treatment route favouring recovery options and considering cost of disposal
  • Apply BAT and the Waste Hierarchy to all routing & processing decisions
  • Ensuring all wastes are handled in a safe, compliant manner and stored in line with relevant regulations
  • Communicate with site operational staff on assigned treatment & disposal routes
  • Provide technical support to site operational staff in planning work & managing waste inputs & outputs
  • Bulking/re-packing of waste to achieve maximum profitability
  • Performing laboratory analysis of waste streams on site, using a variety of wet chemistry and analytical skills
  • Ensure cleanliness of the site laboratory
  • Stock control and re-ordering of laboratory equipment and reagents
  • Be responsible for ensuring that all company procedures are followed in terms of acceptance and processing of material
  • Assist in carrying out hazardous waste audits
  • Carry out site services on external customer's sites as and when required
  • Assist in the formulation of data for agency reporting as required
  • Assist in supervising of transfer station staff on a daily basis

    Key Skills / Experience Required

  • Degree or HNC in chemistry
  • Knowledge of waste related legislation including Hazardous Waste Regulations, PPC, Landfill Directive & ADR
  • Understand how to classify hazardous waste for disposal & transport
  • Working knowledge of a Hazardous Waste treatment facility
