So, you want to be an Accountant?

Our client wants to hear from graduates who are looking to train to professional accountancy status with ICAEW or CIMA, and build a great future as an accountant.

About Them

They're not a traditional accounting practice - they provide bespoke outsourced accounting, advisory, control and strategic financial support for a varied and expanding client base. While for some they are their full Finance team, they also work with clients on merger, acquisition and divestiture execution, on managing and expanding an international presence, on funding growth and achieving a high value sale.

They work with successful, growing businesses in a range of industries. While it might seem like a cliché to say the want to hear from 'dynamic and ambitious' graduates, the truth is to be recognised as a player with their clients, you'll need to match their energy, drive and focus.

About you

You'll have to quickly establish yourself as an integral part of both their and your clients' teams, so you'll thrive working in a collaborative environment. To help you develop relationships at all levels, you'll be proactive by nature and your communication skills will be excellent. As an aspiring graduate accountant, you'll have strong organisation and numeracy skills, with a natural focus on accuracy and detail. You'll have the determination needed to train to be a professional, the ambition to be a Finance Director and the self-awareness to find the right balance between your study, work and social lives.

About the role

Working with a team of professionals at various levels in their accounting career, you'll learn the full range of basic accounting skills such as management of ledgers; fixed asset registers; expenses; bank reconciliations; VAT; financial reporting across P&L, variances, cash flow analysis and balance sheet, as well as getting involved in audit. You'll have exposure to and be responsible for client work from the very beginning so you'll quickly build your own portfolio of clients and or/ areas of technical expertise.

What you need

  • 2:1 degree or higher (actual or predicted). Any discipline will be considered, although ideally you'll have studied a numeracy based subject.
  • 3 A Levels (or equivalent), with at least two at Grades A*-B.
  • Strong GCSE grades, including Maths and English.
  • Strong IT skills and a confident user of Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Excel.
  • The right to work in the UK without restrictions for the duration of the graduate scheme (3 years). We are assuming this will apply to EU nationals.
  • Why join them?

It is a great place for a graduate to launch their career in accounting. They're trusted advisors to entrepreneurs and investors and they rely on recruiting the best talent. The difference is, while you'll qualify as an accountant, you'll also learn to be a consultant.
