HARP (Homeless Action Resource Project) is an exciting and innovative organisation for the homeless that provides accommodation, advice and support tailored to the specific needs of homeless people in the Southend-on-Sea area to enable them to live independently within the community.
We are looking for an highly dynamic individual to join our Homeless Prevention Team at The Bradbury Centre. This opportunity is based in a busy and energetic environment. The Bradbury Centre team will enable long-term rough sleepers to improve their mental health and physical wellbeing and move off the streets into supported housing providing stability and support. Focus will be on helping to support improvements to their mental health, managing physical health problems, sustaining a tenancy with support under the Transition Project and other accommodation options.
Individuals’ basic needs will be met on a daily basis for food, washing facilities and clothing. With staff available to chat, whilst informally assessing their needs and building trust. This will allow continued improvement until they are able to be offered suitable accommodation. To be considered for this role, you will need to demonstrate the ability to work within a highly effective, person centred service for service users with multiple and complex needs that include substance use and mental health. This experience must include the holistic assessment of need, support and risk, and multi-agency casework planning.
Organised, adaptable, and an excellent communicator, you will be enthusiastic about working in a psychologically informed environment, and creative in your approach to service delivery.
The ideal candidate will have:
- An understanding of and substantial experience of working face to face with vulnerable people.
- Substantial experience working in the homelessness field sector or supported housing environments.
- The ability to establish trust and maintain a good rapport with service users; including identifying and raising concerns regarding safeguarding.
- An empathy and understanding for homeless people, especially those who may have complex needs.
- Clear communication skills face to face and on the phone or email.
- Ability to manage difficult situations, and deal with them calmly, efficiently and effectively.
- Writing skills – produce reports and ability to write succinct documents on complex areas.
