Based in Denham near Uxbridge, our client is the World’s leading manufacturer of Ejection Seats, with over 65 years of life-saving experience, having delivered over 70,000 ejection seats to 93 Air Forces around the world and have saved over 7,500 aircrew lives.

MAIN ROLE

A vacancy has arisen for a Technical Author working in the Technical Publications department at their Denham site. The role holder is responsible for producing and updating technical publications including acceptance test procedures, build plans and equipment related documents covering Company products in accordance with specification requirements and quality standards.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Research the technical requirement for publications by reference to engineering drawings, production standards and processes, Logistic Support Analysis records and related component hardware proving using appropriate tooling.
  • Identify and liaise with relevant departments in order to resolve technical issues and requirements.
  • Compile new and standard technical publications and amendments using industry recognised techniques including application of appropriate data structures and formatting and detail.
  • Identify and specify illustration requirements and usage.
  • Proof read documentation prior to passing data to quality systems.
  • Compile Illustrated Parts Catalogue in accordance with industry standards, maintenance policy and techniques.
  • Understand and apply data configuration control, archiving techniques and data management processes.

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • City & Guilds 5360 Part 1 & 2 (Engineering, Technical Communication and Authoring) or equivalent.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

SPECIFIC/TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Highly developed skill in the application of English in terms of both grammar and vocabulary.
  • Experience of desktop publishing software e.g. FrameMaker.
  • Conversant with structured authoring in XML/SGML

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • The ideal applicant will have knowledge and application of Aerospace / Defence or similar publication standards as well as practical experience of mechanical engineering and technical authorship.
