Cleaner / Janitor / Handy person
Location:
5 Host Street, Bristol, BS1 5BU.

Working Pattern: 8.30am till 5.30pm Monday to Thursday (1-hour unpaid lunch) Friday 8.30am till 3.30pm Friday (1-hour unpaid lunch). These hours are negotiable.

Salary: In the region of £16k (depending on experience) for 38 hours per week, 52 weeks per year (25 days plus bank holidays, statutory closing between Christmas & New year).

Post Objective:
To provide efficient and effective cleaning & caretaking and janitorial support, including ensuring the general appearance of the buildings and surrounding areas are maintained & clean in accordance with the required standards.

Other Considerations:
The post holder will be expected to observe safe working practices in carrying out the required duties. Aspects of the role will include Ad-hoc errands that will require you to drive our company car, a clean driving licence is required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Keeping all areas of Host St in a clean, tidy and orderly condition daily: -
  • Entrance, vestibules, doors and windows, reception, stairs, kitchen/café area, toilets and shower room (toilets should be checked several times daily and replenished/refreshed as required).
  • Packing away weekly shops & clearing out staff & client fridges.
  • To clean the internal face of external windows and other internal glass within the limitations of safe working practice.
  • Meeting rooms, design studios, prototyping areas, research rooms (do not move work or documents without permission).
  • Keeping garage and storage areas clean and tidy.
  • Watering all KD greenery/plants.
  • Clearing, washing up/Loading of the dishwasher and putting away dishes several times daily.
  • Emptying bins daily, putting out waste and re-cycling for collection (as required, complies with COSHH regulations).

Janitorial duties:

  • Maintaining & monitoring stock e.g. consumable items such as fuel, toiletries/cleaning supplies/ equipment, light, bulbs, tea, coffee, refreshments, snacks and relevant general ‘household' supplies. Arrange to replenish supplies in accordance with current procedures.
  • Cleaning/tidying, re-fills and bulb changes on company cars (as required).
  • To clean light fittings and to test lighting systems & replacing where necessary minor parts such as bulbs, fuses starters and diffusers, in accordance with safe working practices
  • Reporting any wear & tear/damage (plumbing/ décor/fixtures/fittings/appliance faults etc.). Repairing or arrange for repairs to take place and attend to, where necessary, personnel visiting the site such as contractors.
  • Arranging/dispose of waste materials in a safe, hygienic manner ensuring that it is available for collection as required.
  • Monitor cleanliness of interior & exterior windows, entrances, walls and immediate surrounding street (take appropriate action, call council, arrange specialist services as required).
  • Clearing blockages, remove foreign matter from sinks, toilets, drains, kitchen grease traps etc. and clean up spillages as required.
  • Undertaking porterage tasks as required including setting up and clearing away furniture for events held at KD and helping with the Set-up of catering.
  • To comply with the requirements of Health and Safety, other relevant legislation and policies and carry out weekly fire alarm tests, and assist with evacuation procedures.
  • To undertake handypersons duties as directed by the you line manager as outlined below:

Painting and Decorating – as required, Joinery- First line maintenance of fixtures and fittings, examples: tightening screws on window hinges, maintenance on door handles, minor repairs, plumbing- un-blocking sinks, traps and waste pipes.Adjustment and rewashering of taps. To carry out any other reasonable duties within the overall function of the job.

Additional Duties as Required:
Errands to shops, bank and post-office, assisting with lunch / catering arrangements, ad hoc support to KD meetings / events, occasional removal of items to storage facility / other KD sites or Any Other Duties as reasonably requested by your Line manager/other Senior Manager.

Person Specification
Education/Qualifications

  • Good literacy and numeracy skills

Experience

  • Experience of building cleaning
  • Experience in the use of general cleaning equipment
  • Demonstrable basic DIY skills

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Ability to carry out general repairs without guidance
  • Ability to lift and carry items (including some heavy lifting)
  • Ability to follow and comply with instructions on equipment and/or materials usage
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently
  • A clean Driving License.
  • Some knowledge of the requirements of Health and Safety legislation and food safety regulations or willingness to learn these.

Other essential qualities

  • Ability and willingness to work flexibly and outside normal hours if required
  • Willingness to undertake training – including mandatory/statutory training
