Job Purpose:

JG Pears, are a long established, highly successful, family owned and run business with their animal rendering operation at Newark, Nottinghamshire, of key strategic importance to the UK, meat and poultry market. To enhance the competitive operation of the existing animal rendering plant, JG Pears are commissioning a new CHP facility which will provide process steam and electricity, with an electrical export connection. The CHP will utilise Meat and Bonemeal (MBM) as primary fuel producing a heat input of 42MWth to the boiler and thus generating up to 10.7MWe (at 1.5t/h process steam).

JG Pears are therefore looking to appoint a Compliance Manager to manage and take responsibility for the Environmental, Health, Safety and Quality, legal and contractual compliance at the new CHP Facility and enact the development and upkeep of related systems. You will also manage the Environmental Permit for the existing Animal Rendering Plant.

Job Duties:

Working closely with the CHP Facility, Plant Manager in managing the O&M Contract, QHS&E Procedures and Processes.
Working closely with the Rendering Plant, Operations Manager in managing the Environmental Procedures.
Responsible for continuous improvement and maintaining of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001
Management systems and accreditations for the CHP Facility.
Responsible for implementing CHP Facility and Rendering Plant environmental data reporting systems to comply with internal and external stakeholder expectations.
Ensuring compliance with the Environmental Permit for the CHP Facility procedures and processes, and that operational systems, reporting procedures to the EA and compliance processes are optimised.
Ensuring compliance with the Environmental Permit for JG Pears (Newark), Animal Rendering Plant procedures and processes and that operational systems, reporting procedures to the EA and compliance processes are optimised.
Taking and recording fuel, product and by-product samples for analysis in accordance with designated procedures, against the reference criterion, e.g. EP, ROCs, MCERTS and CEMS.
Working with the CHP Facility operational team and JGP Group HSE Manager to ensure understanding of the Environmental Permit requirements and promoting operational excellence.
Building strong relationships within the business, producing robust business processes with clear accountabilities and compliance reporting tools.
Building business performance reports to ensure continual improvement and compliance with all agencies and authorities.
Dealing with local stakeholders and members of the public who lodge enquiries about the environmental performance of the Rendering Plant and the CHP Facility and maintaining good channels of communication.
Keeping the company website updated with relevant environmental information.

Qualifications/Experience/Skills:

Preferably from an Environmental Quality background with extensive and proven industrial experience, coupled with a knowledge and understanding of QHSE compliance.
Holding of the IEMA and NEBOSH general certificates would be desirable; funding for qualifications and examinations will be given where applicable, but candidates must be able to demonstrate a track record of having worked in the environmental compliance area and preferably have experience of managing or being involved with Environmental Permits.
Able to demonstrate experience of dealing with the Environment Agency and other statutory bodies (such as local planning authorities, the HSE and other public bodies such as the Emergency Services).
Knowledge and experience of accredited QHSE management systems and continuous improvement.
An auditing and reporting background would be highly beneficial.
Methodical and organised.
You must have the ability to influence and drive professional cultures and behavior relating to compliance.
