Product Safety Engineer
Would you like to play a key role in the delivery of product safety for Royal Navy vessels? We currently have a vacancy for a Product Safety Engineer at our site in Portsmouth.
As a Product Safety Engineer, you will be working within the product safety team on a variety of Naval programmes such as the Type 45, Type 26 and Queen Elizabeth Class. You will be responsible for carrying out a variety of safety activities, including hazard assessments as well as the delivery of key hazard certification and documentation.
This role will provide you with the chance to work on most prestigious Naval warship programmes, alongside cutting edge technology. You will also gain exposure to a variety of programme stakeholders, including the customer.
Your main responsibilities as a Product Safety Engineer will involve:
Monitoring the status of Naval Authority Key Hazard Certification and supporting the timely submission of evidence for issue and renewal
Managing and reporting the status and mitigation of hazards and risks within the platform hazard log, presenting status and any issues at the relevant working group and safety committees
Being responsible for co-ordinating the safety and environmental assessments for all engineering change proposals
Ensuring all associated risks are mitigated and reduced to As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP) and endorsed before system/equipment use
Reviewing S2022s and Operational Defects (OPDEFs) for safety implications and co-ordinating the planning and action implementation to mitigate any hazards and risks where these have been identified
Providing technical and engineering safety advice and recommendations and make engineering decisions within own sphere of responsibility and delegated authority
Your skills and qualifications as a Product Safety Engineer:
Essential:
Marine engineering background with a broad knowledge of ship systems
Desirable:
Degree or equivalent in relevant engineering discipline
SSMO qualified
Product safety experience

You must possess a good attention to detail with the ability to efficiently manage your own time and workload. You must also have excellent communications skills to enable you to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders.
