Milton Keynes College are working in partnership with HMP Bullingdon and HMP Spring Hill to put education at the heart of the prison system.
We are looking for a variety of experienced Multi Trade professionals to join our Offender Learning team at HMP Bullingdon or HMP Spring Hill to deliver courses in Painting and Decorating / Waste Management / Health & Safety / Carpentry / CSCS / Joinery / Tiling / Plumbing or Bricklaying to diverse groups of learners across the prison.
As part of our Offender Learning team, you will help to develop and deliver a strong Painting and Decorating / Waste Management / Health & Safety / Carpentry / CSCS / Joinery / Tiling / Plumbing or Bricklaying programme that meets the needs of the learners, prison and Milton Keynes College.
This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated Multi Trades professional to deliver high learner success, through effective teaching and delivery in Painting and Decorating / Waste Management / Health & Safety / Carpentry / CSCS / Joinery / Tiling / Plumbing or Bricklaying. This vacancy would suit a highly motivated Multi Trades lecturer, with a can do approach to education. The ideal candidate will thrive upon working within a challenging yet rewarding environment and will be a passionate and creative person who can share their knowledge and skills with learners to guide them through their courses.
HMP Bullingdon Community Prison is categorized as a local category B prison with a category C resettlement function. Opened in 1992 it is a 'new gallery' design prison with its four main house blocks divided into three galleried units. A fifth house block was added in 1998 and a sixth in 2008 - both are two galleried units.
HMP Spring Hill is joint managed with HMP Grendon (situated next door) and despite sharing a number of common services Springhill and Grendon operate as separate units and exist for vastly different purposes.
Spring Hill is a category D Open Prison with a resettlement regime, its purpose is to prepare prisoners for release by addressing, accommodation, employment, vocational training and offending behaviour needs.
As a successful candidate, you will have:
- Hold a relevant qualification (level 3 or above) in Painting and Decorating / Waste Management / Health & Safety / Carpentry / CSCS / Joinery / Tiling / Plumbing or Bricklaying.
- Hold a recognised teaching qualification (DTLLS, PGCE, Cert Ed) or willing to work towards
- Hold relevant assessor/verifier awards.
- Have teaching/training or vocational experience in Painting and Decorating / Waste Management / Health & Safety / Carpentry / CSCS / Joinery / Tiling / Plumbing or Bricklaying with relevant up-to-date knowledge.
- Have a proven track record of managing and supporting diverse groups of learners through nationally accredited programmes.
- Have experience of identifying, developing and sharing innovative and creative teaching resources
- Have experience of working with students who may have little experience of education and training (desirable).
- Have knowledge of current curriculum and accreditation developments within Further Education and specific subject area(s).
- Have the ability to teach creatively, adapting to the needs of a variety of learners and willing to explore new teaching and learning strategies.
- Have good IT skills and willing to develop further.
- Show accuracy and precision in written presentation.
- The requirement of this role is to work across the whole prison estate, on all wings where education is delivered.

Hours: 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year
Salary: GBP22,835 - GBP32,578 per annum
