Principal Production Engineer

We are looking to recruit a Principal Production Engineer (Mechanical), to join the Production Engineering team at a well established engineering company based in Bognor Regis. You will deliver the implementation of sound technical solutions to production teams, whilst providing Engineering guidance and forward planning for manufacturing objectives.

The successful candidate will have a HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering. A degree in this subject and/or the IOSH Managing safely qualifications would be advantageous. They will have a good understanding of modern manufacturing methods with proven experience in a Mechanical Production Engineering role within a similar environment. They will be innovative with problem solving skills and will possess excellent communication and influencing skills. It is important that the candidate is competent in investigating failure modes of equipment which may involve difficult or restricted access. The successful candidate may be required at short notice to travel on company business.

Duties

• As required, deputise for the Machine Shop and Production Engineering Manager
• Lead Production Engineering and/ or multifunctional teams for VA/VE, Yield and process improvement projects to achieve cost savings and continuous improvement.
• Manage and control all moulding tools, using risk register or other controls, both internally and with suppliers/ subcontractors to minimise tool failure and ensure quality of components made.
• Generate sound manufacturing methods, work instructions, and tooling, and CNC programmes to suit new and existing designs.
• Support core competency manufacturing technologies and drive future developments.
• Support NPI team for the development and introduction of new designs and methodologies.
• Specify, and where required design tooling and facilities for machining and assembly processes
• Provide competent technical support and fast response to technical and 'line stop' issues as required.
• Provide technical support to outsource partners when required
• Support VA/VE operational objectives
• Provide technical support to Engineering design team with respect to DFM/FMEA methodologies
• Support the training and development of Operational team where required
• Carry out investigation and analysis for manufacturing capital investment projects.
• Develop and implement clear and robust project plans to defined timescales to improve manufacturing efficiencies using Lean tools as appropriate.
• Ensure all manufacturing processes meet and confirm to all required EHS legislation.
Take active role in Operational improvement teams for yield improvement, and scrap reduction initiatives.

Qualifications
HNC/HND Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering
or desirable - Degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering
IOSH Managing safely

Competencies
Good understanding of modern manufacturing methods
Innovative problem solving skills
Highly motivated and able to impart this to peer groups

Previous experience
Proven experience in a Mechanical Production Engineering role

Good verbal and written communication skills
Good influencing skills
Computer literate with MS office skills
Must be capable of investigating failure modes of equipment which may involve difficult access.

May be required at short notice to travel on company business worldwide when necessary.
