Job Title: Senior Vehicle Systems Engineer
Job Location: Farnham, Surrey, UK
Job Salary: GBP50k-GBP60k per hour (dependent upon experience)
Main Duties & Responsibilities
The Vehicle Systems Engineer will take ownership of electrical aspects of vehicle conversions and provide technical support to the Customer Application team. As part of a small team in a growing business, they are a proactive self-starter comfortable working cross-discipline in an international environment with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities with minimal supervision.
The role will primarily be based at our clients premises in Farnham however will also include occasional travel to test tracks and customer sites both within the UK and worldwide, mainly USA and China.
Key Responsibilities
Key responsibilities for the role include, although are not limited to, the following:
- Design, integration and test of bespoke hybrid and electric vehicle electrical systems.
- Defining, executing and managing vehicle test programmes.
- Second-line support of customer motor and vehicle installations.
- Hands-on installation and repair of vehicle electrical systems, batteries and power train components.
- Promoting safe working practices near high voltage systems and providing training.
- Creation and maintenance of technical manuals and documentation.

Minimum:
- Good BEng/BSc in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or equivalent
- 5+ years' experience of electrical/electronic system design in an automotive or similar field
- Strong experience of working with high power electric and hybrid powertrains
- Full UK driving license
Desirable:
- Electronic module design through whole life-cycle
- Second language (Mandarin Chinese)
- EMC testing experience and test-house management
- Mechanical design using SolidWorks / CATIA or similar.
- Project management (PRINCE2 / Agile
Relevant Desirable Knowledge & Experience
- Hybrid/electric vehicle motor and battery technology
- Large format high voltage DC batteries
- Isolation monitoring systems
- Electrical power distribution and protection
- Inverters, Chargers DC/DC converters
- Automotive electrical systems
- Body controllers, Engine controllers, transmission controllers
- ABS and vehicle dynamic stability systems (EBD, ESP, TCS, etc)
- Battery management systems
- Inverter and motor control systems
- ePAS, cooling, etc.
- Confidence to define and own safe working practices around high voltage electricity
- Vehicle system and safety design and standards
- Application of ISO26262 or IEC61508, ideally through life experience from concept to validation and delivery
- DFMEA, FTA, vehicle and system validation design, requirements analysis and technical proposals
- Vehicle communication and diagnostic interfaces and associated tools
- (CAN / LIN / Flexray)
- OBD
- Vehicle electrical system and wiring harness
- Wiring lists / diagrams
- Supplier / subcontractor management
- Wiring harness design, fabrication, fault diagnosis and repair
- Strong IT literacy
