For more than a century the University of Birmingham has thrived by being purposeful, pragmatic and pioneering; qualities which reinforce one another to strengthen our position as a leading global university. With more than 7,000 staff and 30,000 students, we are the first civic university in the UK. Our heritage as the original 'redbrick', is combined with one of the most compelling and ambitious agendas in higher education.
With sector-leading initiatives, the University is investing in its intellectual capacity, its student experience and its stunning parkland campus, with an investment plan of over GBP600m over the next 5 years.
The Estates Directorate is seeking to make the key senior appointment of a Deputy Director of Estates (Development) to oversee and strengthen the capability of the Capital Programme team that is responsible for delivering the University's long term GBP100m p.a. development programme. Reporting to and deputising for the Director of Estates, the Deputy Director of Estates (Development) will take strategic oversight for the team delivering a diverse programme of major, medium and minor capital projects across the University's estate portfolio of research facilities, academic buildings, commercial space, social space, public realm, residential, recreational and sports facilities and historic buildings.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of leading the delivery of large scale development projects and programmes across a diverse and technically complex estate portfolio. You will have excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with a proactive, assured and collaborative disposition. Strong strategic planning skills are essential as you will take the lead role for the oversight of the programme with particular responsibility for strategic planning, resource management and reporting.
This is an exciting opportunity to join an organisation with one of the region's most diverse estate portfolios with one of the most ambitious HE project portfolios in the country.
