Job Title: European Applications Manager

Job Location: Farnham, Surrey, UK

Job Salary: GBP70k-GBP90k per annum (DOE)

Main Duties & Responsibilities as the European Applications Manager

The Global team is currently expanding to accommodate the growth of customer activity. It has bases in the UK, Shanghai, California and Michigan and is responsible for supporting and delivering vehicle programmes worldwide.

The European Applications Manager will take a prominent role in the team, taking responsibility for leading customer projects primarily within the UK and Europe. As part of a global team in a growing business, they will be a proactive self-starter comfortable working cross-discipline in an international environment working in a predominantly customer-facing role.

They will be primarily based at the company's R&D Centre in Farnham (UK) with frequent travel within the country and worldwide, particularly the EU, US and China.

Key Responsibilities as the European Applications Manager

Key responsibilities for the role include, although are not limited to, the following:

Build and lead a small team of applications engineers providing pre-sales, commercial, technical and project management support to prospective and established customer projects.
Taking ownership of customer projects and relationships, predicting, establishing, understanding, and reacting to customer needs and helping drive projects toward short-term goals and long-term success.
Liaise between international teams with different time-zones and cultures to ensure those needs are met.
Develop the business tools, processes, documentation, capability and training resources to ensure a consistent, efficient, high quality customer experience to help sustain our client's long-term growth plans.

Relevant knowledge & experience:

Good technical degree in engineering or science
10+ years' experience in automotive engineering
Experience working with relevant vehicle technologies (see examples on P2)
Fluent in English

Desirable:

Experience applying project management methods such as PRINCE2 or Agile
Good IT literacy and familiarity with CRM, project management and collaboration tools
Fluency in additional languages (ideally Mandarin, German and/or other European languages)

Relevant Desirable Knowledge & Experience

Collaboration and Management Tools:

Microsoft Dynamics CRM, SalesForce, or similar
JIRA, Confluence, SharePoint, Slack, Trello, or similar.

Mechanical Design:

Using SolidWorks/CATIA or similar
Ideally of automotive parts particularly suspension and driveline components
Electrical/Electronic Design

System design particularly of automotive systems such as:

Large format high voltage DC batteries
Electronic control units
Electrical power distribution and protection
Driver controls and displays,
Inverters, Chargers DC/DC converters.
Control System Development

Using Matlab/Simulink or similar model-based tools Ideally automotive controls such as:

Body controllers, Engine controllers, transmission controllers
ABS and vehicle dynamic stability systems (EBD, ESP, TCS, etc)
Battery management systems
Inverter and motor control systems
ePAS, cooling, etc
Calibration and diagnostics using OBD, bespoke instrumentation, CAN/FlexRay interfaces, etc.

System and safety design:

Application of ISO26262 or IEC61508, ideally through life experience from concept to validation and delivery
DFMEA, FTA, vehicle and system validation design, requirements analysis and technical proposals
Software and hardware validation strategies, SiL, HiL and associated standards and best practices

Manufacturing:

High and low-volume manufacturing and production techniques
Experience of APQP, TS16949, ISO/AS9000, Six-Sigma, DFM and similar standards and methodology
