THE COMPANY: Our client is a family owned Irish Transport Company established in 1989 whose main operations focus on cross channel deliveries all over Ireland and the UK by using their own fleet of trucks and trailers shipping across the Sea. With a container handling and storage maintenance anf repais done in Belfast they also operate their own transport depot, workshop and modern warehousing facility at Heysham Port Industrial Estate where they now seek a reliable and experiened Transport Planner / Traffic Planner to joing their existing team.

THE ROLE: As a Transport Planner / Traffic Planner will work as part of the transport allocation team. The Transport Allocator will plan the daily schedules for TCS drivers efficiently, taking into account the need to maximise driver utilisation, comply with legislation and produce an excellent service to customers.

Key Responsibilities for the Transport Planner / Traffic Planner's role in Heysham (near Lancaster), Lancashire :

Co-ordinating the most efficient use of TCS drivers by daily contact with Head office, individual drivers and by updating the Multi Haul system;
Communicating with Driver's on an ongoing basis to plan and re-plan schedules as priorities change;
Organise drivers routes to minimise empty running miles incurred;
Plan driver's to arrive for scheduled maintenance in conjunction with the garage supervisor
Maximising driver's available hours while staying within working time regulations and keeping downtime to a minimum;
Monitoring and managing driver's performance against company benchmarks and escalating inefficiencies and poor practice to the General Manager;
Reviewing the Jabba system to track driver performance i.e. speed, fuel efficiency, breaks etc.
Liaise with Customers and Head Office about changes to schedules and plans and updating Multi Haul accordingly;
Ensure incoming calls are handled efficiently.

THE CANDIDATE: The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of UK geography and road systems as well as a good working knowledge of Driver working time legislation. You should have 2 years previous experience in a Driver liaison or Transport Allocators role and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and have experience of dealing with customers directly. Candidates should have a good standard of general education and be proficient in Microsoft Office applications with a particular emphasis on Excel and report generation.

Key Experience/ Characteristics preferred for the Transport Planners / Traffic Planner's role in Heysham (near Lancaster), Lancashire :-

Excellent knowledge of UK geography, road systems and Driver working time legislation
Minimum of 2 years previous experience in a Driver liaison or Transport Allocators role
Must have experience in a customer focused role
Good IT Skills and experience using Microsoft Excel is essential
Must be have excellent organisational and planning skills
