Tank Crewman -The Army
As a full-time Tank Crewman you'll receive the extensive training necessary to be a driver, gunner and loader in a state-of-the-art tank. You'll have an excellent ability to multi-task and work well under pressure as well as an enthusiasm for large vehicles. You'll get to drive the 62-tonne Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank, learn the ins-and-outs of operating such a vehicle as well as ensuring the communication systems are fluid. As you move up in your career, we'll give you the opportunity to be trained on additional vehicles like the new AJAX as well as give you the basic mechanical skills required to work with these highly-technical vehicles. And you'll do so while travelling the world, making life-long friends along the way.
BECOME A BETTER YOU
You'll master military tactics and soldier skills before gaining an advanced understanding of your vehicle and how to use it. You'll have the opportunity to learn to how to drive other Army vehicles - from cars, trucks and heavy machinery. And you'll get hands-on with modern, hi-tech vehicle weapon systems.
WORLD-CLASS TRAINING
First off, you'll attend 14-week basic training where you will learn vital combat skills like weapon handling and survival. Not only this, you'll develop your fitness, mental toughness and leadership ability. Next up is Phase 2 training, where you learn to drive different kinds of vehicles, from cars to tanks. You also learn how to fire and maintain the Challenger 2 tank's hi-tech weapons. The qualifications you get will set you up for whatever career journey you choose; whether in the Army or the civilian world. And there'll be plenty of opportunities for promotion along the way.
GAIN QUALIFICATIONS
The Army will pay for you to gain valuable qualifications. These could include:
- HGV driving licences
- Level 2 NVQ in Engineering and Maintenance
- Foundation Modern Apprenticeship (FMA)
