My client has an exciting opening for a Configuration Management Assistant. The main purpose of the role will be assisting the Configuration Control Manager in the creation and approval of engineering data and bills of material for release to manufacture and procurement.

The role will provide effective support to the Configuration Control Manager / Head of Configuration Management and to deputise in their absence taking on full responsibility for the area whenever necessary. It will require the creation and maintenance of parts and bills of material within the company ERP system, the setting of permissions and the defining of product types as well as the approval of engineering documentation. The release and transfer of products and product defining data into operations for procurement and manufacturing will be part of the responsibility along with the construction and maintenance of Master Record Indexes and build standards. It will require the adoption of best practice methodology and the adherence to agreed configuration Management procedures necessary to ensure that all built and configured projects will deliver professional and effective quality.

Main Responsibilities

  • To assist the Configuration Control Manager in the creation and approval of engineering data and bills of material for release to manufacture and procurement.
  • To assist the Configuration Control Manager with the company change management process ensuring the integrity of the revised parts and documentation.
  • To assist the Configuration Control Manager in the creation and maintenance of build standards and master record indexes.                 
  • To assume control over the department in the absence of the configuration Control Manager.
  • Adhere to agreed best practice policies and approved operating procedures in line with Configuration Management Principles and processes.
  • Responsible for ensuring all completed work and documentation is transferred in an efficient and timely manner in line with the Configuration Control  Managers / Companies requirements and timescale.
  • To communicate and engage with other departments where necessary to achieve the required objectives.

Education and Experience

Essential

  • Qualification in a technical discipline: Apprenticeship / City and Guilds / BTEC / ONC.
  • Educated to GCSE grade C in English Language and Mathematics (or equivalent).

Desirable

  • Experience of IFS ERP system or similar would be beneficial.
  • Experience in an engineering based industry – Manual or office work.
  • Understanding Engineering documentation and drawings in relation to BS308 / BS8888.
  • Awareness of Standard Operation Procedures and their place within the production cycle.
