Broad Function
Interpret technical requirements and produces test protocols for automated/computerised systems (including hardware, software, and network components), and controlled functions and processes, undertakes physical evaluation tests on those systems, interprets data and produces technical reports. Identify, implement and qualify automation projects that deliver improved efficiencies and process robustness.
Principal Responsibilities
The role will include the following activities:
Understanding of customers' requirements converting these into design deliverables such as design, interface and testing specifications
Responsible for Health and Safety directly associated with automation
Identification of upgrades to equipment control systems, planned and reactive maintenance and supporting the completion of jobs specified in work orders.
Providing technical expertise and subject matter knowledge relating to equipment controls
Providing assistance and guidance in the resolution of equipment failures and operational performance issues, including analysis and reporting as required.
Leading continuous improvement activities and support installation and modification of new equipment and systems. Leading, as required, in pre-delivery inspections, factory acceptance tests, design reviews, vendor audits, commissioning, and qualification.
Leading investigations into major failures or incidents using Root Cause Analysis and providing written feedback.
Develop processes and procedures for the ongoing maintenance of control systems in a validated state.

Education and Experience
Electrical Engineering or Controls qualifications, to a minimum HND/Degree level.
Knowledge of Health and safety regulations associated with electrical control equipment and systems, and general maintenance activities.
Hands on experience of programming, commissioning and troubleshooting automated control systems; PLC, HMI's, SCADA, ideally with experience of Siemens PLC/HMI/SCASDA systems
Hand on experience of troubleshooting on electrical control panels, with knowledge of instrumentation, drives, sensors
Demonstrable knowledge and experience of working to electrical safety standards; i.e. BS EN 60204, BS EN 13849 or equivalent.
Performing PUWER assessments for electrical equipment
Working in regulated environment, such as Pharmaceutical or Medical devices, other regulated environments such as Nuclear will be considered.
Computer System validation (CSV) and experience working to GAMP, including the development of design specifications and development and execution of qualification protocols - IQ/OQ/PQ
Interfacing controls systems to supervisory or data collection systems, such as SCADA, data Historians or MES. Proven experience of the implementation of OPC.
