Head of Collection Strategy and Third Party management

Role Purpose
Developing and ensuring the delivery of the Collection & Recovery strategy for Retail Banking and Wealth Management (RBWM) UK businesses (Secured and Unsecured) across all brands. Providing oversight to first line collection and Recovery and Underwriting operations Developing and ensuring the delivery and adherence to a comprehensive risk control framework for third party mortgage introducers (TPMI) Leadership and motivation of a team of highly skilled individuals, ensuring compliance with Group policies and adherence to relevant legislation.

Principal Accountabilities: Key activities and decision making areas
Responsible for developing an effective Collections and Recovery policy and strategy for RBWM UK >$100bn lending business (Secured and Unsecured) across all brands (HSBC, FD, M&S, John Lewis Partnership (JLP)) with a view to minimize credit losses whilst delivering appropriate customer outcome in line with UK regulation and HSBC standards Leverage best in class models, data and analytical tools to deliver strategies that maximize collection and recovery efficiency, Responsible for developing and ensuring the delivery of RBWM UK debt sale strategy Ongoing management review of Collections performance and drive the Collections Operations and Strategy teams to deploy collection strategy activities, risk segmentation models, dialler management, resource, customer treatments, champion-challenger projects, resolution tools and contact strategies. Manage and monitor, in conjunction with the Collections Operations and Collections Strategy teams, the value of accounts in arrears within budget. Report monthly deviations (with reasons) within the RBWM RMC as appropriate. Provides second line oversight of first line Collection and Recovery operations, ensuring the Collection & Recovery strategy is appropriately executed, delivering outcomes in line with Annual Operating Plan (AOP) and agreed SLAs Liaise with the Collections Operations team to set appropriate, monitor and challenge standards and targets set throughout the year. Agree collector reward system for collections activity on Current Accounts Support the growth of Third Party Mortgage Introducers as a mortgage acquisition channel by developing and implementing a comprehensive risk control framework, including fraud prevention tools and active broker panel management. TPMI is a critical growth channel and its success is critically dependent on putting in place a best in class third party management framework Provides second line oversight of RBWM fist line underwriting teams, performing second-line Quality Assurance (QA)/QC and cases review and management of first line delegated authorities Monitor performance of first line underwriting teams and ensure corrective actions is taken if performance is outside appetite Ensure learnings is shared between first and second line, providing feedback loop into front-end credit policy

Customers / Stakeholders
Manages internal relationship with RBWM Retail Credit Services (RCS) and CCS and RBWM Risk Senior Management team, providing support and challenging where necessary Input into business planning and Annual Operating Plan (AOP) process, using specialist knowledge of Portfolio Management. Represents HSBC with the market and regulators Cascades business strategy and goals globally, gaining support and commitment to their delivery.

Leadership & Teamwork
Guides and supports management team in change the bank initiatives Provides clear direction and sets performance objectives for direct and indirect team Manage the available resources of the team in an optimal fashion and make timely, justifiable requests for additional resources. Use experience, skills and understanding to coach and mentor. Develop and manage talent within the team Manage the team within the HR requirements of the bank - people, succession planning and performance management
Qualifications

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications

Knowledge:
Credit risk policy, strategy, operations and related procedures, in Secured and Unsecured Collection & Recoveries Managing third party risk Regulatory and industry best practice. Working knowledge of scoring technology and its application.
Experience
Experience in Retail Credit Risk and/or Collections Strategy / Collections Strategy. Experience in Secured lending Analytic background with project management experience. Working across all levels of the organisation to understand cross-functional linkages and interdependencies, as well as the implications of risk at both a strategic level and at the business unit level. Experience of creating, motivating and leading a successful, effective team.
Skills
